Starting Probs

Ok, my friend has a 1987 Rx-7. Today we checked that it had spark and gas. Both are working. At first it turned over pretty slow because the belts seemed WAY to tight. So we loosend the belts a little, and it turns over faster. Then my friend looked and one of the belts isnt moving and the pully that the belt connects to seems to be pretty much locked up. So we go over and look at his brothers 81 Rx-7 and it doesnt even have a belt hooked to this unit. We cant figure out what the unit is or does. Its located below the AC unit.

While trying to start we always keep it hooked to his other car so the battery can't be low and a reason for it not to start. I know i prolly said all this a little confusing but if you can desifer what i said and help me out i would really appreciate it. Thanks. We are putting a lot of time to try and get this thing running and hopefully we will sooner or later.

You're probably referring to the power steering pump. Which pulley are you referring to? The one on the pump or the one on the front of the engine? In any case, the engine will start and run without the power steering pump operating, so look elsewhere for the no-start problem.

i thought the ps is above the AC pump....just curious

yes it is.....

bradenscreed 09-28-05 07:28 AM

then he is either talking about ac/ps/or something i dont know about ?!

uh the units pully kinda is around the front of the unit cuz the center doesnt rotate only the outside. Dunno if that will help. Im looking at some part sites to see if i can find a picture. Its on the right side of the engine, very bottem unit.

Take a picture yourself. It's getting confusing.

The A/C is on the left side of the engine so now you say the right side? If you're sitting in the drivers seat, which side is it on. That's the way you should define left from right. In other words, drivers side=left; passenger side=right.

oh its on the left then. The side that the driver sits on. Sorry, havent had much seat time with the 7, usualy standing in front of the engine.

bumping, sorry still trying to figure this out.
