Starting Problems I already did like 5 things or so

I am still having a problem with my 13B fuel injected 87 Rx7 S4 really i have gotten the car to turn over a couple of times but it took a while so some people thought my fuel injectors where leaky or my spark plugs and some other stuff to cure my starting problem. :wallbash:

So what i have done so far is that I have taken my upper intake off with the injectors what i did is i cleaned everything including the fuel injectors where cleaned by a professional service, I got better ignition coils that i got from my s5 in the garage, new NGK spark plugs, I cleaned out all the carbon in the intake and throttle body, and i replaced all the hoses so what is going on right now is that before i did all this stuff to my car it did start up a couple of times but it took it a while for it to turn over but the last time of that couple of turn overs it just clicked so i just wonder why it did that. Now i have everything back together and now It will still just click i'm thinking that it is the starter, i don't really know if it could be the crank angler sensor it may but i don't know, it isnt the battery because i did charge it alot before i put it on. I just want to know why it isn't trying to even turn it just clicks If you have any suggestions please tell me.

heck the battery and expecially the battery terminals and wires on both ends, including the starter end.

RX7freak08 01-29-07 08:24 PM

oh ok so replace all of those.

Hey what part of OKC are you in? Got a nephew just out side of Siminole....

RX7freak08 01-29-07 08:40 PM

ummm Oklahoma City if you look it up i'm near bethany

Not necesarily needs to be replaced, check the connections for dirt rust and corrosion. make sure the battery terminals aren't warped from being overtightened. Take your battery to autozone and have them test/re-charge it, if its bad get a new one.

I had similar issues and it ended up being a worn out battery combined with a bad ground

RX7freak08 01-29-07 08:53 PM

where does the ground go

TehMonkay 01-29-07 08:58 PM

Check the battery connections and the connections on the starter, 12mm nut holds + power to the starter. 14 mm bolt going through the tranny grounds the starter, the main ground is connected here.

RX7freak08 01-29-07 09:00 PM

oh ok so check the ground if possible change starter and change battery wires i know the battery isn't bad because it works. Now those things that i have done should get my car started if not the only other thing would be compression wise right.

TehMonkay 01-29-07 09:02 PM

Has the battery been tested?

Don't change the starter yet, just clean the connections on it, get under there and look and you'll see what i mean.

TehMonkay 01-29-07 09:03 PM

If you can though try to start it and gently tap the back of the starter with a hammer, preferably a rubber one. If this helps then it is the starter.

RX7freak08 01-29-07 09:09 PM

oh ok well see the starter is good when i took it out and well it seems like i had been using it alot over and over just trying to start the car.

Also cheack and clean the battery case. Dirt, grit grim and grease on a battery case can cause conductivity between the posts and cause a battery to expire prematurly. Clean it off with a bakingsoda/water mix. It may not help your starting problem but could cure any voltage draws while the car is off.

probably your starter conection is bad or bad starter :/ maybe but after all that u said you have to crank it for a while if it keep happening check ur compression might be low but good luck

RX7freak08 01-29-07 09:19 PM

if it is low that means i have to rebuild the engine mainly put better apex seals on it.

TehMonkay 01-29-07 09:28 PM

Try pull starting the car, or open the door, push the car until you have some velocity. Jump in put in 2nd and slowly dump the clutch in.

If you have been trying to start it alot the heat can damage it from constant use especially if its older.

RX7freak08 01-29-07 09:48 PM

that is why they need to make fans for these starters but it might or it could be just froze up like it has been very cold here in oklahoma lately.
