starting problem. car shuts off when idleing.

hello rx7club,
i have a 87 fc gxl s4 5spd, intake, CS header, CS catback 72K

i have had a lot of trouble starting the car lately. The first start of the day usally fires right up but, after that it takes several trys. my mechanic tested the trailing coil and got no spark, so i replaced the coil with igniter and still have the problem. im sure its not just flooding because the other problem is the car randomly shutting off when idleing. this happend when i was at a red light, at a stop sign, idleing when parked, and coasting to redlight in neutral.

thank you for the help

is it a clean idle before it shuts off?

What does it idle at typically, and what is the idle at when it randomly shuts off? Does the idle puddle and then the car stalls, or is it a healthy idle and it turns off? It could be your TPS, but I think you have a bigger problem there.

its a healthy idle around 5-7 hundred rpm. but it doesnt happen very often.

So it shuts off randomly even if it's at the 5-7 hundred rpm?

yea that happend a few times. but since i changed the coil/igniter ive only been having minor starting issues

i fixed it, it was the tps off set. i made a check engine light, got the code and used it to set the tps.

now the car doesn't backfire at all
