Starting to get mad at my project!!! LOL

OK, well, update time I guess. I have a 1987 N/A sport model Rx7. I got the car used with intentions of doing an engine swap and modding the hell out of it. However! I decided before I do all that I should really get more familiar with Rotary engines. So I have been tinkering with the Rx7's 13b engine getting it all running and better so I can have a good working knowledge of the cars systems and engine when I rip it completly apart and start from scratch...Few problems tho I have run into today... Damn near caught my mufflers on fire... (Clogged cat AND oil dripping from the leaky oil cooler hose onto the exhaust system...) SO that puts me back a bit... Still having the Idle issues described in my previous post...
Good news! I had a wicked fun blast removing the factory security system... (Ughh... what a pain...) LOL so , really what I am needing now is this:

1: New Oil Cooler hose (Lower / Inlet)
2: Possibly new Oil Cooler...

Question... Do you have to take the instrument cluster out to unplug the logicon unit??? (A/C controls on the dash..) Cuz that looks like a pain to get to really... Anyone done this recently and have some good input? Thanks!

You can pull the logicon just by removing the shifter surround and the radio/center dash surround.

No no, I mean I need to pull the entire unit OUT and replace it... The wires go into the dash from the lil black box on the ass end of the unit... Thats what I need to unplug...

I've always been able to just remove the screws, pull it towards me and disconnect the harness.

I've found it simplest to remove the defrost vent cover (the panel right under the lower edge of the windshield) to access the plug you're talking about.

But wait!
Before you get all happy and yank the harness out, tie a long piece of string around the plug and use it to pull the new harness back into position...there's a lot of stuff 'tween the back of the logicon and the firewall plug and fishing the new plug in blind is a PITA.

great advice! thank you i wouldnt have thought of the vent up top there.. excellent! very helpful!

Wow, I've never had to go through so much trouble on mine. I wonder if others have done it and somehow pulled the harness through with them? Mine have always been just jammed in behind and pulled forward enough to reach in and disconnect/reconnect with no troubles. I'm gonna have to go check on my GTUs now since that cars pretty unmolestered!

why are you pulling the logicon to fix an oil leak?

toplessFC3Sman 07-03-07 07:33 AM

how is an oil cooler leak dripping on the exhaust?

DREYKO 07-03-07 08:20 AM

how does oil dripping on the exhaust (how) at the header going to cause the mufflers on fire? Not doubting you just confused

You must be a magician :p:. The 2 plugs on the back of the logicon work exactly how you describe. However, there's a plug right up by the windshield that you can't get to by reaching through where the logicon sits. That plug is fixed in place by a bracket of sorts so it won't move unless it's broken.

Go with what clokker said.

Ok buddy, to explain further I'm having multiple problems at once... Logicon problem.. (1) Oil cooler leak (2) Oil dripping onto my exhaust piping... (3) Possible clogged Cat (4) TPS Issue (5) and last but not least shes running rich... (6)

Thats 6 problems... separate problems.... and no ... pulling the logicon wont fix my oil leak.. however it should fix my damned a/c controls....
Soooooooo... for the cheap seats in the back...

Thanks guys with the advice on logicon unit.. "clokker"
