Starter Issues (Heat Soak?)
I have been dealing with odd starter issues on my 86 NA motor in my B2200 for a couple months. It started with the starter not working at all, not even a click from the solenoid. I had a spare new solenoid I installed, worked for 2 days, then the same issue, I replaced both the positive and negative cable and added di-electric grease to the connectors, no change. I got a reman starter, and it fixed that issue. However, now it seems to be heat soaking or something. When cold, the starter cranks the engine over faster than my old starter did, but when starting a hot engine about 1/3 of the time, it cranks over like I have a low battery, sounds like it is cranking at 1/2 the speed of normal and the rest of the time it is normal. The engine starts all the time and I have not had it not work like before. Could this possibly be heat soak? If so, it should be more consistent, or is my starter a dud? I used a Dixie reman starter.
