Starter in the cold...help!!!

Ok, here's the story:

A month ago i had to take my car to the mechanics because my coil packs didn't produce any spark...he fixed and said it was some burnt up wire and a relay. Unfortunately during the time i tried to fix it myself, i ended up putting a lot of strain on the starter...

Now:

When ever it gets cold, it takes a while for the car to start up, meaning the starter turns the flywheel really slow at first and then slowly speeds up.

Unfortunately yesterday, which was the coldest night yet, i couldn't start the car at all...the starter was to stagnant.

SO...i guess i'm asking what might be the problem? grounds? starter? something else?

P.S. I seem to have a coolant seal leak as well (White smoke until the car is nice and warmed), how can i gauge the time til i need to rebuild??

Also I didn't search yet. Sorry.

Thanks,

Jahan

Replace/rebuild the starter. Have you checked the battery?

Do you *really* have a coolant leak? Have you tried the bubble/pressure test?

If the starter is original it could very well be on its way out...

Viscosity of your oil may also play a role in slow cranking...

I have MT-90 (redline) Manual Gear Oil. Thanks for the quick replies. I'll look into a rebuilt starter. Also, any idea how I can get the car started in the mean time?? I don't wanna wait till spring to get off campus!!! lol.

Anyway, can you guys give me a quick once over on the push start?? I know how it works, but it wouldn't hurt.

Push start...

Set the key to IGN and put the car in 1st. Place towels or other padding on the rear bumper. Have another vehicle push the car up to about 10 MPH while you are in the RX-7. Let the clutch out quickly. Car should start.

NEVER tow start. It is too dangerous in the event that your car leaps forward.
