Starter is always on when battery connected

Ok so, I just got the bolts to my cars starter I bolt it up. It works fine after that, it starts and drives.
Then my cousin drove my car after me and when he came back my idle was at 2.5krpm and the starter was still on.......I have to disconnect the battery to disengage it. Everytime I connect the battery back, the starter goes on.

I need help with this one. Im very positive I hooked everything up right. since it started before with no problems.

Im gonna pull it out and test it, but if you guys have any solutions its very welcomed :D

Check the wires on the starter. See if the big wire is touching the small terminal or SOMETHING it should not be touching. If the small wire and the big wire come in contact the starter engages.

I second that

I just tested the starter and its fine...kinda.

When I put 12v to the small terminal, the plunger moves the gear forward....but the gear also spins slowly at the same time, it doesnt spin as fast as if it was engaged, but it just moves slowly, like 1 revolution every 7-10 secs.

Make sure the gnd wire on the long starter bolt is there and it's on tight. Plus.........I think you might have ruined the starter what with it being engaged with the engine running. I could be wrong about that and don't mean YOU caused the problem, just that it might be a gonner. I've no constructive ideas other than checking the wiring of the gnd wire.

I have a similar problem. I just finished up an engine swap. My car is an 87 tII. As soon as I connect the battery the starter engages and sparks are coming from the battery terminal. I have the large black w/yellow striped wire on the long starter bolt and the big black wire with the protective boot on the left terminal of the starter. Then there is another small guage wire that is black w/yellow stripe that i had connected to the little tab on the starter solenoid, i dont think its right and i dont see any other wires that could reach. ANY pictures of a correctly wired starter and solenoid would help tremendously. Thanks.

Do some basic troubleshooting...

Keep the small / thin wire disconnected...
Does the starter still try to disengage? Then the solenoid is bad / stuck.
If disconnecting the small / thin wire stops the problem, there is a short somewhere in the circuit that goes to the igntion key.

Some advice on resurrecting threads...
Try to start your own thread if you can't find a definite answer from a search.
You confuse people when you resurrect threads - the original thread was dead for almost a month now.
