started for first time... not pumping gas?!
 

umm where is the fuel pump... how do i test it?
it runs with starting fluid... has great compression.

now ill i need is gas! I pulled the fuel line off the engine and its not pumping any gas... it has 2 lines, im guessing one is a return line? well i poulled them both, and then one at a time. there is no gas comming from them.

so ill ask again..... fuel pump, where is it, how do i test it, is there anything im missing.?..?


i searched and got all kinds of off topic stuff... too much "filler" to find what im lookin for.

ok ok i did some more searchin....

i read about the fuel pump test switch thing... a 2 prong yellow plug by the shock tower.... is this it?

ok im pretty sure thats the one.. i jumpered it like it said and i could hear the click... I also did the thing where you push the AFM door and it clicks too.

now I tried both fuel lines but witch one is the feed line A or B?

ok so if the thing clicks... and i still gewt no gas that means..... what, that my fuel pump is bad? Where is it and how do i get to it.... i know is back in the car some where...

Any help would be great.. I really want to drive this car for the first time. Its killing me!

fuel pumps on ebay are cheaper then auto zone... the walboro or what ever is 89.99 on ebay and the stock one is 115.00 at autozone!

but i dont want to buy it until i know where the stock one is and if there is somethin im missing.

It is in the back hatch. Pull back the carpet. Unscrew the cover nearest the driver side shock tower. And it is udner there.

This should explain it in full detail...
FD Fuel Pump Install

i have a 1987 tii... is it gonna be the same?

I put the walbro in my 87TII and it runs great, have yet to have it flood or any other anomalies, i bought it new for $120 but it was well worth the money, keeps me way out of that dangerous lean of my afm gauge.

Step 2 is rewiring that puppy sometime in the near future.

ok i pull the padding back, took off the cover, and this is what i found....

when i turn the key to on... there is no click from the pump. Could it be that the connections are rusty?

now to pull the pump its gonna be fun. The screws that hold the pump in the tank are rusty and stripped.

im guess im going to sand down the connections and see if that helps in the morning. Its getting dark, time to call it a day.

So do you think the rusty connections could cause the pump not to come on?

How would i remove the screws? i would dremel them but what about sparks soooo close to fuel. Seems a bad idea to me.

Your feed and return lines might be connected backwards. Does it try to start and then dies?

nope.. we tested back to the pump today. it makes no noise or anything.. so i ordered a wolboro(sp?) 255 lph pump today! I hope i get this thing goin with that.

Go to the fuel pump connector. It's under the carpet on the backside of the left, rear, strut tower. Using a digital meter, check for 12v on the large blue wire with the connector still connected and the jumper in the yellow plug up front. YOu should see 12v approx. Also check the Black wire for a good ground.

Personally, I would just get a drill and a quater inch drill bit and drill just the heads off and then lift the cover off. The remains should be removable just with your fingers/pliers.

thatks to everyone... the pump it slef is bad... i ordered a new walbro pump today.. it will be here thursday and i should get this thing goin...

do i need some sort of regulator for the extra fuel?

i cant wait...
