Standalone + FMIC +BAC
 
I'm waiting for my new wiring harness to come in so I can finish installing the Wolf 3D V4 PnP in my S5 TII. The Wolf unit has a MAP sensor built in requiring only a vacuum line from the manifold. Although I'm getting rid of my stock AFM, I am keeping my BAC -- the Wolf runs it -- and I'm trying to determine the best source of air for the BAC. Can I just put a little filter on the BAC as it no longer requires metered air?

On my previous setup I had plumbed a line from the homemade turbo inlet duct--between the AFM and the turbo--to the BAC and it worked fine. Now I have no turbo inlet duct and I'm not quite sure if I need a source that has metered air. I've seen mention of plumbing into the FMIC piping between the turbo and the FMIC, but can someone confirm that it's ok to have boosted air going through the BAC?

I had my Greddy IC pipe (pipe 1) drilled and tapped for a fitting where the bend is on the pipe and it works fine. I originally had a 1/8" NPT fitting but it didnt feed enough air to the BAC and the throttle stuck high for a couple seconds at about 1000. Put on a bigger fitting and no problems at all.

As long as the BAC is mounted after the throttle plates it should be ok. Mounting it before will really do nothing becuase you want to have an increase in idle at cold start and during normal use for other device operation (power steering, etc). Since theres no more afm, plumbing the 'source air' for the bac from practically anywhere will do, such as the atmosphere with a filter, or from a pipe that joins the turbo to the FMIC.

If it's plumbed into the IC pipe, it should be after the BOV, no, to avoid surge on decel? I'm leaning towards venting to atmosphere and a small air filter.

I have it after the BOV but I'm not sure if it would make a difference or not.

I would just put a small breather filter on it, I'm not sure you would want to moun it anywhere after the turbo as it would see postive pressure, and I'm not sure if a bac can handle 10+psi of pressure.

It handles it just fine with the stock intercooler...

With an AFM in place all air must be taken in from a pipe after the AFM to ensure mixtures are correct, but with a MAP-sensed system it doesn't matter where the BAC is fed from, and it doesn't need to be connected to any pipe. Easiest would be just to put a little filter on it.
