Stage 1 of my new center console

I attached the pic of my center console. Basically somebody before painted it red, so I sanded it all down and made it smooth ... no more of that texture. Then I took the top piece with the vents and hacked it up so it would fit in the bottom hole. Puttied up all the seams and glued it together, puttied up the cigaret lighter hole (still needs lots more layers).

The pic shows how I'll arrange everything. I have the climate controls at the bottom. I also found some aircraft supply place online that sells sheets of woven carbon fiber cheap for the top piece. I can't decide if I should leave the ashtray, or if I should glue it in place and putty it shut too.

When it's done it's going to be painted gloss black, except for the carbon fiber. Should look schweet!

Don't know if you looked in my car or not, but the guy who had my car before me filled in the lighter plug and ash tray with putty. That was cause he busted the crap out of it. And that's why it's all busted to crap now. Cause I had to chisel out all the putty from the cigarette lighter hole. I needed to plug in my radar detector. But if you don't need any of that then cool. It looked pretty good before I broke it.

Tonight I'll sand it and maybe paint it ... more pics coming

Hey BOOSTD 7,

Looks like you must making more holes for gagues :D :D

I like your approach for fitting all the gagues in.

I debated and debated on how to do it. Finally decided to go with a double bubble dash and fit those in the 2nd bubble (corner dash pod) and 1st bubble (mickey mouse pod).

For the rest I'll probably move the AC controls under the armrest for a 3rd DIN slot.

Love the carbon fiber idea. Can't wait to see your's completed. Should look SWEET.

Here's stage 2 - puttied up and sanded, some final sanding still yet to do. Then primered. It's looking good! Can't wait to see how it looks finished in gloss black with the carbon fiber surround.

I figure I'll have room for 6 gauges in the top part. With the Defi gauges, I can daisy chain them all and have one warning light programmed to go off when any of the gauges in the chain hits it's threshold. I'll then stick the warning light somewhere directly in my line of sight. I figured out what will go where the ??? is, the control unit for my Defi gauges.

So the 6 Defi gauges in the middle, and a big Defi Tach - I'll probably custom fit the Tach behind the clear plastic where the stock tach is. That'll be sweet watching all of those replay at the same time :D
