SR Motorsports Aluminum Flywheel.
 

All the hype Is on Racing Beat when It comes to upgrading to that of an Aluminum Flywheel.

But What about SR Motorsports?

It comes In either 9.5 or 11lbs. Whereas RB's comes In a 12lb.

I'm not dissing RB but why are we not seeing SR Aluminum Flywheels as much, when It comes to getting one?

Anyone have experiences on these Flywheels? Opinions, etc?

does that 9.5 or 11 lbs figure include the counterweight? The racing beat 12 lb figure does. That is the only reason that I can think of. O and does the SR flywheel have a replaceable steel wearing plate?

i have the sr motorsports 9.5# flywheel on my car. don't remember if it had a replaceable plate or not, as its been a year since it was put on my car, and don of marvelspeed installed it for me.

i have been very happy with the flywheel on my car. it made such a difference.

I see, under their site, that you have to buy the hardware kit. What does It Include?

Yes, I have the SR (Indigo) 11# flywheel. It is a very nice piece.

I does have replaceable friction disc.

If I remember the hardware pack includes all the high grade fasteners for the flywheel to counterweight and pressure plate to flywheel connections.

I was VERY impressed by the quality of this flywheel.

how much difference does a lightweight fly wheel
acutally make? are they very streetable?

Exedy 12lb Chromoly $350 (I got a clutch from them too so they dealed a bit) from Cox imports. You need a counterwight though.

No. I wanted to know of anyones experiences with this Flywheel.

What is the diff in price between the two? I know with pulleys and a light weight flywheel it changes rpm... or so I heard...

a lot of people say a lightweight flywheel is unstreetable, but i really saw no difference in the driveability of my car w/ the al flywheel on it. one of the best upgrades i had done.......minus the turbo and intercooler. and the hardware kit from what i remember is just what Blue TII said.

I know there are debates about this, but how does the lightweight flywheel affect drag racing? Any before and after times?

sorry, haven't ever timed my car, and now i have low compression on the rear rotor. so it will be a loooooooong time before she is ever timed.

How's launching the car with the AL flywheel though? Seem to lose any time on the launch or just takes some getting used to?

I have the 9.5# Al flywheel on my car. I don't really have any problems launching it...it just takes some getting used to. I can't give you any before and after comparisons because my whole turbo conversion was done at the same time.

EDIT: The only thing I don't like is trying to cruise under 3k rpms in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

i have the sr motorsprts flywheel. I love it. its my understanding that the aluminum flywheel they offer is 9.5 without the counterweight. with it it weighs 11 or 12. they don't offer two different flywheels, only one. it took me a week to relearn how to drive but it is amazing. there is a reason they call it nitrous for your drivetrain. it does have a replaceable friction surface. the replacement is 70 or 80 bucks. my suggestion for anyone with the extra cash and the need to replace your clutch is to trhow any light weight flywheel in. just don't get the light weight steel one from racingbeat. be a man and get the aluminum from any company. they are generally all built the same.

I have the 9# SR flywheel, bought about a year ago for close to $500.00, and I will tell you that I regret it. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE in a gain of power. your power curve changes but does no gain any hp or faster qtr mile speeds. I did a comparison using the stock 24# (I think thats what it weighs?) mazda fly wheel and ran qtr mile. then I swapped fly wheels and put SR 9# flywheel on and was the exact same qtr mile speed. my 60ft time was better but you lose torque so it evens out. I personally would put some 4.30 gears in if your going to spend $500.00 on a performance part. I have a 87t2. If any wants the SR flywheel I will sell mine for $200.00 barley used. I put the stock one back on. SR does include the counter weight built in already. let me know.

hmmm, my RB aluminum was the best power-feeling mod other than the downpipe/racepipe. strange...

YES, lightened flywheels are for circuit racing NOT drag racing. They speed up heel toe downshifts and save wear on syncros- not somththing useful in drag racing where you never shift down or wait to match synchro speeds (thus "power shifting").

That said the 11# flywheel (they do offer 2 choices from what I recall) is perfectly streetable for me. When I did my TID mod the idle dropped to 350 rpm- but it was still perfectly smooth AND I could do traffic OK. I did bump it back up after 2 hours or so of Sears Point traffic jam. Now, obviously how low the engine can idle is very related to the condition of the engine...
