Squeeking sound from the rear end of a convertible FC
 

Greetings to all.

My '91 turbo convertible is making a squeeking sound when the weather is hot or when the exhaust gets really hot. In winter time i have no problem but when the summer comes and the temperature is high this squeeking sound appears and its coming from the rear end of the car. I have a brand new TEIN super drift suspension so i suspect that it might be the rear passive turning system, the rear bushings or something like that. Any more ideas? I think that i have read somewhere that the anti-sway bar endlinks use to fail often in convertibles. Is this true?

Does anyone know where to buy online anti-sway bar endlinks for my convertbile?

mine squeaks and it turned out to be the front u joint... it could also be the exhaust.

Check your u-joints. My vert had squeeky ones.

Get a mate to hear where its coming from. There are a lot of things that can squeak. Something at little as an exhaust hanger needing lube etc. Check that sort of stuff before buying bushes.

i dont think bushes will help him in this case...

Thanks for your replies. I went to the Mazda service in my area and they showed me that the sound comes from a part similar to the ones that i have posted in the photos.

Where are exactly the u-joints located? Can i find them in the factory manuals or in mazdatrix site?

The u-joints are at either end of the driveshaft and are not replaceable separately (at least, that's what Mazda thinks).

I havent found yet what is causing the squeeking noise from the rear. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

does it squeak under compression? braking? If your suspecting the sway bar/endlinks are the problem disconnect it from the car and take it for a spin in an empty parking lot. Does the squeak sound like its coming from either side of the car or just the back of the car in general?

I have some noise coming from my rear right that i think is a dried up bushing. mine only squeaks if the car has been parked for extended periods of time :(

The squeeking noise is present when the weather is hot and I drive the car for a little time.
Then, when I park it and try to force down the rear end of the car (like i am testing the hardness of the suspension) with my weight, I hear that noise. The noise is also heard when I drive slow on a wavy road or bumpy road.

But the main reason for the sound is heat (probably exhaust heat). When its cold the noise is absent.

Are the bushing original or have you or a prior owner replaced with Poly bushings?

I'm wondering if the seasonal occurrence has more to do with dry weather vs. wet rather than heat vs. cold. The obvious that water is a lubricant.

And I agree about disconnecting the sway bar end links and see if the squeak goes away. Process of elimination.

I have never changed the bushings.

Our '89 TII purchased new will squeak at various times, similar to the environment you describe.
On ours, it's the left rear camber link (actually bottom portion). Spray heavily but it will return.
I have the adjustable on the car camber links (Mazdatrix) sitting in the garage for years along with
another set of stock links, but I just keep squirting it's fine.
This winter though, it's time for all the bushings to be replacement.

I'm glad he added.."of an FC convertable" into the title..

But still I can suggest LUBE..lol!
