Squeaky convertible top???

This isn't a huge problem, but it is annoying, especially when I put the top down with people around and it squeals like 3 quick times on the way down. People always shoot a glance over when they hear it. Anyways, I tried spraying some WD-40 on the visible hinges. It didn't help any. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this squeaking?

Im bringing this back. I would like to know how to get of some of the squeaks too. Mine squeaks between the window and its rail when the window is down. Really annoys me.

There are probably a thousand things that can cause squeeking.

First I'd be looking at any plastic piece rubbing, of if the latch rods on the rear of the Targa section still have the teflon spacers.

On the Window and its rail, I'd be looking at the window loose in the door or track. Pull the door panle and see.

from the day i picked up my car new at the dealer until the day i sold it the windows squeak if the temperature is above 90 deg.

the top started to make the squeaks about three or four seasons ago. i just ignored it.

i stopped the squeaking when the top is up by pushing the button to open the top when it is latched closed.

Also, pick up the sun visors from an early miata. they make the interior feel much more open when the top is down.

thread resurrection!!

my top also squeaks, but it does it when i take off with the top up. when i have it down its quiet. im thinking something at the bottom of all the stuff (ive never taken apart a top) has something to do with it. should i just take off the interior stuff and wd40 parts where it bends to see if it affects anything.

hopefully it'll stop. it happens regardless of how i take off. slow or somewhat fast. its really strange.

i just fixed the squeaky noise coming from where the targa top latches to the body. that really drove me nuts. sounded like a nest of small birds...

They always make noise. About all you can do is pull off some of the plastic pieces and spray WD-40 everywhere. Even then, it'll probably come right back within a week or two.

yea i figured it would come back, but it'd be worth a shot. who knows.

a thicker lubricant might work, but any will also attract and hold dust and may end up making it worse?
