Sputtering, now worse symptoms!...

wow my car is really acting up now, i was driving on the highway taking a friend home when i downshifted to go around a corner and get on the gas the car went absolutely no where, the revvs just died as if i put the car into neutral.... i coasted to a stop on the side of the highway and revved the car, it would revv if i gave it gas lightly, but if i gave it more, the revvs would just drop and when i let go decent sized fireballs came out my exhaust....

wtf is going on now, this is still the same stupid sputtering issue but this happened....

rexman13b 06-19-05 06:08 PM

sounds like a fuel pump going south

Archangels 06-19-05 06:15 PM

ahh frig.... my friend hinted towards that aswell....

my walbro should be here in about 2weeks....

can the pump going out damage anything or would it just not let the car run...?

You checked your fuel filters lately?

nope, havent checked those, but it's nice and warm out, so if you give me a rough idea on how to check them i will go out now and check them....

Archangels 06-20-05 08:08 PM

by the way, the car will idle normally when this is happening....

ilike2eatricers 06-20-05 10:24 PM

There are 2 fuel filters. High pressure (in the engine bay against the driverside frame rail) and low pressure (attached on the actual fuel pump in tank). Your walbro should come with a small teabag filter so just get the high pressure one.

yup, ordered for $41 canadian....

i'm worried about what happened on the highway so i refuse to boost it right now....

BlaCkPlaGUE 06-21-05 02:15 AM

check your compression for the hell of it. If you don't have a tester, seriously invest the 30$ at partsource for one, extremley usefull for us rotary users ;)

Archangels 06-21-05 02:17 AM

ahh why you gotta say something like that, now you got me freaked out....

ilike2eatricers 06-21-05 02:34 AM

Just do the compression test if it's good you dont have that much to worry about really. It's better than chasing imaginary problems and throwing money away fixing them.

Archangels 06-21-05 02:39 AM

yeah but i'm scared of those....

thats why i kinda dont wana do one....

then again my engine seams as strong as an ox, just has minor idling issues, sputterings and few others....

all people blame my FCON for running too damn rich....

gotrotors? 06-21-05 08:24 AM

Check for intake air leaks too. I had my seven do that for awhile, and low and behold, huge crack in my Turbo Inlet Duct.

Archangels 06-21-05 11:08 AM

ahh yeah thats a good idea, i'll check that my next day off too....

where was yours and how did you fix it?...

Houstonderk 06-21-05 11:47 AM

Mine did that and then just stopped running because a piece of an apex seal broke and then went down to the next seal and cracked it right down the middle. it sucks.

andyfc3s 06-21-05 12:01 PM

I killed my bov and that kind of thing happend so just for boost leaks.

Archangels 06-21-05 09:59 PM

well my car's running like a champ so i assume apex seals are perfectly fine....

not sure why it did it still, hasnt happened since....

Archangels 06-22-05 01:06 PM

UPDATE:

I got my injectors cleaned today and the car is running PERFECT!, *knocks on wood*....

best $102 i ever spent!...

thanx again for all your advice and help guys!...
