Spring Question
 

I am about to buy new springs for my 90 GXL. I was wandering if any of you guys are running on Tein (on ebay) springs? More than likely I will buy Suspension Tech. springs. I am not a big fan of the Eibach's progressive rates! There are so many to choose from (HKS, Intrax, Eibach Suspension Tech. and Racing Beat) and I was just hoping to get some feed back on your experiences. I want a nice set up because I will be running my car in local SCCA autocross. One more thing I just bought some KYB AGX adjustable shocks.

I have ST springs on AGX's and I like it. My car is an 86GXL and it's just an everyday car for me. Their not too teeth chattering with some decent pavement, but I work in downtown St. Louis and the pavement is horrible. It's asphalt that seems more like 100yr old cobblestone. You'd probably still feel the bumps in a hovercraft.

Oh, but I used to drive 100 miles to/from college every weekend and there was a nice curvy backroad that I took. My roommate was jealous when I told him I didn't have to drop below 60mph on that road.

btw I know someone else will say it, but there have been several recent threads about the TEIN springs on ebay asking if anyone else has them

hey i have had the groundcontrol adjustable springs and i am tottally in love with them. they are alittle stif but that is exactly what i wanted. then i purchaced the tokico 5 way adjustable shocks and struts and that set up is a drastic improvement over stock. where i live we have alot of underpass u-turns to get back on the freeway. when my suspension was stock and all i had was 17 inch 5zigen copse with 215/45 nankang tires. and the fastest i could take those curves until i lost traction was 30 mph. after the new suspension i was able to take those at near 50. then i installed front and rear cusco strut tower bars and i can almost hit 60 mph. :)

does anything need to be modifited on the car or the shock to run the ground control coil overs?

nope nothing has to be modified at all... just installing the cusco rear srut tower bar is a bitch. unless you have patience and own a dremel with a few cutting and grinding wheels

I will be purchasing the Tanabe Sustec GF-210's shortly. They have a lower drop than the Teins, Eibach's, or Suspensoin Tech.

I don't like progressive rate springs, either, so that's why I went with the linear rate Eibach springs. ;)

interesting, you don't see those all over the place. are they the same style spring as the stockers? as in the tapered diameter coil fronts or are they like the linear diameter springs like the ones that you have to use with a coil-over perch setup?

Actually, you do see them all over the place, as they are the standard Mazda Comp setup. ;)

The Eibach ERS springs that I have go with the Koni Coil-over shocks and Mazda Comp coil-over strut kits and camber/caster plates. I am not sure what would be good with your AGX shocks, but Eibach and Suspension Techniques tend to have better quality control than most other brands IMO.

BTW, if you are really serious about racing, you can get a Mazda sponsorship and receive a nice discount on their competition parts. (Yes, autocross counts!)
