"Sport" plastic from an 86
How are the aero package pieces from the 86 sport model attached? You know, the plastic that wassupposed to reduce drag by helping the air off the wheels...
I'm thinking of yanking them from a car I saw in a Junkyard a while back and I want to be sure to bring the right tools. I'm thinking it's either a small bolt (10mm or less) or a phillips screw... |
They are put on with plastic snap fittings and screws. Screws are normally 8mm or Phillip heads (depending of if factory installed or dealer installed respectively).
If you are going to put them onto a S4 car without the aero package, you will want to unbolt the brackets located next to the tow clips in the front, and pull the nylon nuts and bracket out of the donor cars body for the lower rear. The S4 already has the rear holes, you just need to pop out the rubber fillers and insert the plastic nuts back into the holes. The panels tend to rust if exposed at all to snow, so make sure if there is any sign of rust or damage that is repaired before you bolt the aero panels onto your car . |
BTW: the panels also lower the drag from .31Cd on a non aero coupe, to about .29Cd.

How many pieces total?
|
2 front, 2 rear and the lip spoiler
|
There are front and rear lower brackets = 4
Front and rear lower panels = 4 Front lower airdam (only about an inch, but found between the front left and right panels attached to the front edge lower bumper skin) = 1 and rear spoiler = 1 so not including the screws and nuts you are looking at 6 pieces of aero plastic and 4 small brackets. |
forgot about the center piece :(
|
Well, I didn't pull the pieces. The front "lip" was fubar and the right side front piece was missing. No sense getting the rest if I couldn't have the whole shebang.
If anyone's looking for the back two pieces, I could get those. The small rubber wing is faded but intact. I thought I had an Aluminium hood but the speaker magnet liked it too much. All in all, a bummer trip to the yard :( Cory |
Cwaters, can you get the two pieces that go in front of the rear wheels as well as the mud guards that came on that car? I already have the rear spoiler and was thinking about putting all the pieces on my 87 na.
