If I wernt turing around and selling this car really soon, I would empty that whole bay out realy quick :).

A complete, nice condition, well running, good interior and body RX7 SE is even rare here in oregon.
I could turn around with a new paint job, and get $2500 easy.
($800 invested so far, $500 car, $200 tranny/driveshaft, $100 misc)

The Spyder 05-01-04 08:05 PM

The process:
I used krylon vinyl dye $3.99 a can-

I cleaned everything with a scrub brush and soap and water at first, but that only took a bit off.

I stripped the bay down, covered everything I was worried about (intake, coils, electronics) and took a hose to it. I then used just a spray bottle of simple green concentrate and hit everything that I needed to.
From then, I used a stiff brisle brush, a scrub brush, even a paintbrsch and rag.
Things that needed it go hit twice, and eventualy everything was hosed down. It left me with as you see it now.

Painting was easy, just clean, paint, and lightly sand with 600grit, paint again. Gave everything a nice new look.

it does look very good, i'll have to get ahold of vinyl dye :)

RXSevenSymphonies 05-01-04 09:21 PM

I owe Simple Green my life.

mnbv 05-02-04 12:32 AM

damn thats a lot of work, but it looks really nice, compare it to the first picture!!

Evil Aviator 05-02-04 12:39 AM

Be careful with that Simple Green. We had to stop using it on our helicopters because it was corroding parts.

The Spyder 05-02-04 03:12 AM

I taped off all the black trim and dyed it, looks much better-
Pictures tommorow.

How come you blocked off your coolant filler/cap?

drft_180sx 05-02-04 06:31 AM

What kinda hose did you use? High pressure or just a garden hose?

Looks great i wish i had the same motivation as you. :(

SOIA 05-02-04 07:59 AM

looks great another thing to do if you're bored, you can polish the metal lines like power steering and what not with some metal polish, makes them look shiney, takes a few times to make it look like new but it does make a big difference. MMMM simple green, those fumes get to ya pretty quick!

RXM307 05-02-04 08:21 AM

Please excuse my ignorance but what is Simple green?

Josepi 05-02-04 08:26 AM

It's an organic cleaning solution here in the states. Or it could be made of people...no...that's soylent green.

Looks good. If you're ever doing this type of thing again, try Castrol Super-clean. I buy it by the gallon, and put it into a spray bottle. It works alot better than simple-green IMO , but you have to be careful not to let it sit too long because it will start to eat away at the aluminum and make it looks funny. It eats away grease/oil in seconds though.

RXM307 05-02-04 08:56 AM

OK thanks for the information, I'm currently looking for something to easily clean my engine bay, I found some cheap foaming degreaser that a friend had and it worked wonders but he doesn't know where he bought it or what it was called (stupid me through out the bottle and all the other degreasers seem to be a liquid which takes alot of elbow grease which I'm not prepared to do. the foaming degreaser was basically spray on then wipe straight off

can you suggest something that would do a similar job or better?

Josepi 05-02-04 08:58 AM

While we're on the subject, what's a good noncorrosive cleaner?

:)

Terrh 05-02-04 01:59 PM

Varsol gets rid of oil based gunk INSTANTLY, it's wonderful stuff.

CHEAP, too!

ilike2eatricers 05-02-04 05:22 PM

The worse it is for the environment the better it cleans. Simple rule to follow. Personally I use both Castrol super clean and simple green. When I was cleaning my stock rims the simple green couldnt take off the cancer looking brake dust but with the catrol super clean on for less than a minute it was practically all gone.

ajsuper7 05-02-04 05:34 PM

castrol superclean is great stuff, its taken away most of the burnt plastic on the inside of my engine bay away without too much effort and it cleaned my tranny in seconds...looks almost brand new...you guys need to get the castrol.
