Speedometer cable

Yesterday the speedometer stopped working and power steering went into failsafe mode (=no power steering above 50mph). Ergo: the speedometer cable broke down at the tranny. When I checked the cable it was hanging from under the car. The plug was dragging over the ground, but there is no inner-cable in it anymore. Do I need to replace all or can I just put a new inner-cable in it? How much work and how difficult is it to replace the cable? Where can I get another cable. (RX-7īs arenīt very common overhere and chances youīll find one on a wrecking yard are practically zero).

Marco.

same thing happened to mine i mean come on how many things go wrong with these cars all at once. i think they make these darn things to fall apart or somthing, i mean everything on my car is breaking and i dont know why? my cable did the same thing, but before it did the speedometer was acting funny bouncing around a little.. i would have no clue how much one cost i just said f&^% it and drove with out the speedometer..but if i find out i will let you know..

I just had my speedo "fixed" for $20 in parts plus another $20 in labor. I guess the guy got me a new gear that goes into the tranny, but the tranny still isn't turning that gear. So basically, I'm $40 poorer and my speedometer still needs fixed. I don't feel like messing with the tranny myself, so I'm having it fixed as we speak, cause my car's in ANOTHER garage being serviced now.

same thing

same happened to me what i did i went to mazmax a used parts dealer in houston. and got me a cable the cable included the iner cable and the cable housing. cost me about 35$ what i did was. i took the iner cable and shoved it thru the bottom conection to the tranny. and pluged it back in and vuala thereit works again. hehe

but i wil tell you this if that cable came loose means you got some sort of vibration on the tranny. possible throw out bering malfunction . i ened up redoing my clutch this weekend. for same reason and or maybe could mean your drive shaft going out check all those.... have fun:p

It sounds like esp0135 either rushes the job or works late at night. If check your work, things stay together.
Many Japanese cars use the same size cables. You may be able to get a different cable core that is long enough, and make it fit.

This has happened to me too.....in both my RX-7's. My '79 series 1 and my '88 series 4. I braized the cable back together and it lasted for a while.....but its not strong enough, I gotta get a new cable today.
