spare tire question
 

I own a convertible and noticed I had a steel spare. I just bought an alloy spare, but noticed it is a 135/70/16 and my normal tires are 205/60/15. So is the alloy spare no good for me?

It is a spare not to exceed 55 miles per hour and under 50 miles If the bolt pattern is the same They are both 5 right? then it does not matter. Are they the same height? (It doesnt really matter since it is an extremely limited emergency use tire)

The spare is an rx7 alloy spare so yes the bolt pattern looks the same. The height is off a bit I believe.

As pointed out previously, for a short distance, it's OK. If you want to do a comparison, try http://www.csgnetwork.com/tiresizescalc.html and you can see the difference.

It is over an inch smaller. Perhaps I should see how cheep a new spare tire would be to put on the rim.

I asked a guy at discount tire and he said they were super expensive. You might could find them for a decent price, but who knows. If you do let us know, mine's in bad shape.

just ditch it and get a can of fix a flat and a tire repair kit

I just went out and checked my spare and its the same size as yours. I've driven mine about 30 miles once with no problems, you just have to go real slow.

Were your other tires 205/60/15s like mine?

OK I understand the concern for safety here but you are getting way too carried away

1. dont put it on the front because if it fails on the front it will be bad
2. do not exceed 50 MPH
3. do not use for more than 50 miles
4. stop being paranoid about it it is called a space saver for a reason it is designed to be
smaller than your regular tire and 1 inch in height is of absolutely no consequence

I personally drove a space saver on my first 7 for 1500 miles with no problems ( I was flat broke). I am by no means reccomending this because extended use wears suspension parts and remaining tires unevenly. My point is simply that this thread is WAY TOO DEEP for a non existent problem.
