I will (hopefully) be the happy owner of an 86 FC. I am getting it cheap from a friend who needs the cash, and has too many cars now. I previously have owned two different FB's so I am familiar with basic rotary issues.

It is the loaded model not sure what the designation is for that. It does have the suspension controls, and he said it has an Limited slip diff. Car has 188K on it. But had a (Mazda dealer )rebuilt engine put in or the original rebuilt.. not sure. There is 30-40K on this engine since then. He has replaced the driveshaft, and trans and engine mounts.

Problems with the car he told me about are : power steering line is leaking, and sprays fluid. There is a fuel leak also near the back of the engine.. Suspecting the pulsation damper, I read it is part of the fuel rail.. but having never seen a 13b up close I dont know where that puts it in relation to the engine bay.

Car has been sitting for 6 months or less. Is there anything I NEED to do before trying to start it, I know to pull the fuse for the Inj, and turn it over till there is oil pressure, But should I use some WD40 or other spray in the intake to get the thing a little oil on the dry rotor surfaces?

He is selling this to me for $1000.. is that a decent price?

Id want to see pics before commenting on the price, but fix that fuel leak ASAP! On the s5's the pulsation dampener is integrated into the fuel rail, but on yours it is not. Get that baby fixed before you burn! I would just pull the plugs, put a little but of oil in the chamber there, then crank it without the fuse in to get it spread around and help get compression on those dry seals. Screw WD40!

www.kbb.com for blue book value (for a car that is fixed and runs).
pulsation dampener is $100 part, $200 labor. Major fire hazard so don't drive the car until the fuel leak is found and fixed.
Expect similar prices for other things that need replacing.
Get a buyer's guide from the forum FAQ and/or google and/or aaroncake's site. Check everything on the car. You might want to get a mechanic to check it again.

Thanks for the replies. Do you think the leak he is talking about is the pulsation dampener?.. is it located on the back side? If not it could just be the supply line to the fuel rail...

Thanks for the heads up on the WD40... plugs are easy enough to get to.. I will do it that way.

I have seen the car run previously, it seemed to runv ery well... got to a 100MPH in 3rd gear pretty easily. The car is decent looking too... very little rust.

I have checked the autotrader, and around here.. I found NON under $3,000... and only 4 cars to begin with.

After I get the RX7 running good.. then I got to decide what to do with my 94 LS400...... Love that thing too...... can never have too many toys... especially when they were cheap toys..

well replace all the vacuum lines, fuel lines possibly, everything that is 20 years old and corroded to crap! but if the FPD hasn't gone yet, and hasn't been replaced, its a good idea to do that anyway.
