SOmebody please help me with this turbo swap decison!!!

Well i just purchased a 87 turbo 2 with a jspec s5 engine in it, im not exactly sure how he put it in and all but it was running and lost compresion.

The engine has only about 50k maybe a lil more on it. Inside the engine is fine, the rotors are fine and the housing is fine also.

What would be worth my time and effort???

To get the negine rebuilt by some rotary dude in a shop i know
or to just buy a new engine and put it in there or what do you guys suggest?

another question is, how does the s4 tranny hold up with the s5 engine that has more hp???

Bukwild 10-01-04 12:15 PM

well for my money i would send it to my buddy Kevin Landers at www.rotaryresurrection.com and have him rebuild with the best components and street port the shit out of it. A blown motor is a great time to port and upgrade seals. And if you plan to ever run serious boost in it he can hook you up with 3mm apex seals. Drop him a line and check it out

Rebuild it yourself if all the main hard parts are good. Have you determined why it lost compression now that you have it all apart?

Or find a good used one to drop in and rebuild the other later. Don't worry about 3mm seals. Porting yes.

crazyassrx7 10-02-04 03:25 PM

I havent taken it apart i just has a mechanic and my friend tell me the insides are nice. So im still lost why the rear rotor lost compression all of the sudden

you guys ahve any ideas of what couldve happened???

......................

MARTIN 10-03-04 08:54 PM

take it apartn first

crazyassrx7 10-03-04 09:21 PM

The thing is I dont have enough time for it. And i cant get engine out, I dont have the equipment.....

MARTIN 10-05-04 10:00 PM

so what are you gunna do with the car?

jacobcartmill 10-05-04 10:13 PM

if it blew, the internals (at least half of them) are [i]not[i] good :)

Funkspectrum 10-05-04 10:36 PM

I'd rebuild the engine you have. S5 motors are a little more die-hard than the S4 engine. I'd rebuild, streetport and drop in 3mm apex seals...

It's worth it man....

Sir Rupert Hobo 10-05-04 11:31 PM

3mm seals are NOT worth it. only if he's boosting high/often. also, it's been said S4 rotors are more bullet proof than the S5's. again, i wouldn't worry about it. if you're not shooting for high power, just get a basic rebuild. streetport if you want.

MARTIN 10-06-04 12:59 AM

ok its nice that you are giving the guy ideas on what todo with his motor, but I guess yall missed what he said on his last post. He has no time or tools to take the motor apart much less rebuild it. So buddy I think you are stuck

Bukwild 10-06-04 10:38 AM

like I said in my post. Send it to Landers and have him tell you whats good and what needs to be replaced. So people don't understand that everyone is not a rotary mechanic and or has time to do shit like this.

crazyassrx7 10-07-04 12:47 AM

Well what i think IM going to end up doing is taking out the engine, In the mean time i talked to Alex lopez from Lopez racing, Im sure some of you guys have heard of him in south florida.
He is going to put a usd j-spec s5 engine in my car installed for 1650.

Now with the engine im talking out (s5 j-spec also) im going to rebuild it through time since I dont have the time right now. Not too sure about the 3mm apex seals but I know the engine im rebuilding is sure going to ahve some power. Still deciding on exactly what Im going to do with it

crazyassrx7 10-07-04 04:17 PM

anyone know how much i can get a used jspec engine for delievered to my house???

Funkspectrum 10-07-04 05:16 PM

PM SDrotary. See if he has any jspecs lurking about....

crazyassrx7 10-12-04 11:12 PM
