SOMEBODY HELP ME !!! I overheated my car, I think the engine is seized, HELP ME !!!!!

I overheated my car and I think I seized the engine on it !. When I trr to cranck it on it makes a sound on the switch, but thats it the starter won't go, what should I do ?
A friend of mine told me that theres is a switch in the cpu , or if that doesn't work I can check the starter relay is that true ?
THANKS

check all your fuses anyways... how hot did it get exactly? and how long did you run it hot? those are the questions at hand here?

Hmm... First, take a deep breath. Second, tell us exactly what happened, in great detail, with proper spelling and grammer.

Probably a dead battery, but I suppose you could have blown the motor... you would have seen a ton of smoke though

A friend of mine told me that theres is a switch in the cpu ,
Don't listen to your friend, he doesn't know anything. There are no switches in the CPU (body computer).

That would be the 2nd thing to check, if the battery is in good condition and you are getting things like your headlights working just fine.

push start it

I think you meant grammar.

Go ahead and PUSH start it....

The car was stoped completely, I got on the freeway for 10 minutes, I was going 65 mph, then at the first stop the car went off by itself and there was a lot of smoke coming from the hood , from then on the car didn't work

importsown 06-24-06 02:17 PM

Is it S4/S5? Naturally aspirated/TurboII? And how many miles on the motor... Thats the big question here.

88t2romad 06-24-06 02:35 PM

ok...again..take a DEEP breath....count to ten, pull your head out of your ass.

Ok, now what was the temp guage showing?(its not exactly accurate, but if it was showing a lot higher than normal, then you probably overheeated it)

What is the status of you cooling system?

Was there antifreeze spitting out anywhere?

Smoke from the engine bay?.....or do you mean steam. (what did it smell like?)

If you were going 65 when it overheated that kinda points to poor antifreeze circulation. that could mean plenty of things....thermostat, water pump seizure, clogged radiator, low coolant.

Thats just my thoughts, give us a detailed walkthrough of what happened and we'd be happy to help :) (some of us)

Motor Seize symptoms...

If you were running the car and all the coolant leaked out the temperature guage would rise very quickly. If you do not shut off the engine quickly you will seize the motor when you do eventually turn it off. It will run however until you turn it off - many races have been finished where the car's cooling system failed - but the motor was discarded after the race - the motor fuses as soon as it stops moving. I hope this helps you.

Try turning it backwards with a socket on the main E-shaft pully if it breaks free and starts it is time to plan for a rebuild....every now and then you can break on free and they are fine but not often. They tend to stick when they sit or when they overheat.

But we need more info like did you put it in nutral when it shut off, did it die and overheat all at once or did you pull over and shut off the motor, did you flood it....need more info!

Aaron Cake 06-25-06 10:32 AM

Can you rotate the engine by hand? If so, the it is not seized.

What is the voltage of the battery? Are the terminals tight and clean?

If the battery checks out (and the voltage does not take a nose dive when cranking) the you may have a starter problem. Try hitting the body several times with a hammer. If that doesn't work, pull the starter and test it outside the car.

Once you get this figured out, see http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/cooling.htm for your overheating issue.

Unless there is a lot of heat transfered through the housings of the engine if all the coolant is pumped out the temp needle will drop to zero since there is no coolant for it to register heat through.
