Some problems
What would cause the following problems?
1. Idle normally closing on 2k rpms, but when the heater is turned on full blast, it goes down to about 1.5k 2. A slight popping when letting off the gas and sometimes at idle. Anything would be helpful |
idle should be at 650-700 RPM, not 2000-1500.
|
Yeah, I mean under my normal conditions thats what it is. I know thats nowhere near normal lol
|
Then I don't understand your question. Idle is not at 2K so it should not drop to 1.5 underload.
|
when you turn the heater on this loads up the engine and drops the idle
that high of an idle i first check for vac leaks where do you hear the poping coming from? |
popping is completely normal on 7's.
|
mine pops, I think it is afterfiring (raw unburned fuel burning in the exaust), but it could be backfiring (hot exhaust gases igniting the fuel/air mixture). I say afterfire, I dont worry about it.
|
can it be an un-adjusted or improperly adjusted fast idle cam?

Okay, fix the high idle first. Here's some things to check:
Stuck throttle cable: There should be VERY little pull on your throttle cable, before it starts to pull on the throttle. I'd start out by taking the throttle cable off completely, to see where it rests, then adjust the throttle cable to length by using those two nuts to set the length. Go through the same procedure if you're equipped with Cruise Control.. I've seen the nuts allow the cable to move. Vacuum Leak: listen for a hissing noise around your engine bay. If you can't hear anything specific, spray some starter fluid around your rats nest (under the throttle body), or around any other vacuum lines you see (after the AFM). Start there, and work your way around. Start with those two, and move from there. They're both quick and easy to check. As for the popping: Don't worry aabout it now, get your idle set first, THEN worry about the mixture. |
Ok, Ill go through that. Thanys for the answers guys
