Some pics of engine removal

I got my new hoist last summer, and hadnt had a chance to use it yet. I pulled the engine from my N/A today, just thought Id snap a few pics.. Here is my pretty new hoist doing its job.. :

Heres my Engine bay...now awaiting a meticulous cleaning, and turbo engine.

I think my passenger side motor mount has seen better days :p: Good thing I have new competition mounts waiting to go in. Those and my RB engine brace will definately tighten things up

Thats about it..just thought Id share my morning.. :p:

Everytime I tear a motor out of a newly acquired "fixer upper"... the bottom of the passenger side motor mount falls pathetically on the floor with a dull "thwap"... at least they are pretty cheap!!!

haha... That's about what mine looked like prior to replacing them. So you gonna send me down that optima redtop in exchange for those motor mounts? :D

Are those silicone hoses going to your charcoal canister?

Yes.. I had replaced everything with silicone hoses a while back, but I ordered blue, thinking it may look good. IMO it looked really tacky. Im going to re-do everything with black silicone once the new engine goes in.

do you have to have that charcoal canister.....because i dont

Ronac 03-16-04 04:28 PM

You probably shouldn't use silicone for the charcoal canister because it doesn't hold up very well against fuel. I think it would be safer to use something else..

Haha thats funny.. I lost my mount too on a swap I did for one of my friends. Must be a common problem then... but what can you expect after 200,000 miles...

lol........so does anyone know if you need it or not

My dumbass friend operating the hoist killed both of my mounts by dropping it back down on them when they weren't lined up anymore.

I just opted for the normal mounts since I'm already thin on money from the TII swap.

Thats why I work alone.... :p: And Ive decided to spare no expense on my swap. I want to do everything perfect, so I wont have to do it again. That is also why it is taking me so damn long.. :p:

Yeah I need a hoist to replace my TII's motor mounts & my 929 engine.

I hope they make a fold-up engine hoist cause I don't have 7'x4' in my garage to store it.

You do not need the charcoal canister. It is not a necessary part for operation.

You dont need a hoist to replace the mount on a FC, just a floor jack should do it for you. And about the hoist, this one folds up pretty nicely. If you look closely at the 1st pic, there are 2 pins down on the legs near the back. You pull the pins out, and the legs fold straight up. Then push the arm all the way in and fold it down, and its actually pretty compact. Got it for about $180 at a local parts store.
