Solenoid Problems? 88 GXL.

Hey,

I've been having problems the past few days. My car will start sometimes, and sometimes it wont. When I turn the key, it just clicks. This tells me my battery is giving juice (and it should be, it's new and heavy duty)... But usually over the past three days, if I could pop the clutch on my hill, the car would start, and continue to start for the rest of the day. Today however, it started right up this morning but wouldn't start after school! I tried popping the clutch, but my friends and I couldn't get it up to a fast enough speed in the short distance we had. After a while I had my very experienced friend (who owns Camaros and Corvettes) get it running for me, and we drove it down to an o

My question is this. Do you think my solenoid is bad? I recently used DOT-3 for my brakes and transmission... I thought this was what was supposed to go in there, but could that have caused a problem? And also, does anyone have any kind of guess at how much this replacement will be? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

what do you mean you used DOT 3 in the transmission??? Do you mean you changed the brake and clutch fluid with DOT 3 fluid... or did you really put it into the tranmission, where the gear lube goes.

Well no I dont think I actually did then... I must not have, I had a mechanic right there with me and he was the one putting it all in.

My starter problem was diagnosed

like battery was dead but it wasnt,
when i turned the key of, we got the click from the interlock relay
go under your car
pull the pron from the selinoid...(black)
hook your volt meter to it
and ground it to the ground spot on ur starter...
then turn it over

if its under 8v, its wireing....

either contacts on relay, or wire/harness to the starter

if its over 8v its the starter,

but sometimes it could be over if its warm

peace

It was over 8v, and it WAS the starter. Thanks man, I had a performance starter installed that is almost completely silent, and starts on the first turnover. Thanks again everyone.
