so, I was inspired to supercharge:)

but I am pretty broke:(

what kind of car would be best to pull a s/c from?

so far the only one I can think of in specific is the first gen mr2.

You're asking for a lot of trouble...

Speed costs money.
Performance costs money.
You try to cut corners, and it's all going to bite you in the ass...

Hey, Jeff. I've been thinking the same thing. From what I've read so far, if you keep the boost to <6PSI, and push up the fuel pressure, it should stay together. Of course RETed is right, it's just a matter of how much.
Here is the rule: Fast, Cheap, Reliable, (pick two)..

i say screw cheap and go for fast & reliable..much more satisfaction

well the 2nd gen mr2 was turbo not super charged. 1st gen was super charged, good luck finding one of those for cheap though. i think the tunderbird sc's were super chaged? can't think of any cars that came stock sc'd right now some one help me out.

Thunderbird used a twin-scroll (positive displacement or roots type) blower.
This thing was quite long, and mounted directly onto the intake.
Count on huge amounts of money for a custom intake manfiold to fit this.

Not really an option here.

Really, there are not too many cars that came stock with a centrifugal supercharger, which is what you will want to use unless you count on welding together your own intake manifold (very tough to make one right).
The only one that pops into my mind other than the 1st gen MR2 is using one of the (17) '68 (maybe '67) Shelby mustangs that came with stock 5 psi Paxtons.

Really, you can't cheap out in this area.
Expect $3000 to fit a supercharger.

Lets just say, you could buy a TII for teh cost of installing a supercharger. Save your pennies, and pick up a S4 TII.

Bambam7 04-19-02 11:36 AM

Installing a turbo onto an N/A engine is much cheaper than using a supercharger.

Installing an entire TII (maybe Jspec) engine and drivtrain is a tad more expensive than putting on a turbo, but much stronger and more reliable- and less of a PITA- only if you don't like custom fabbing things.
If you can easily make your own piping and mounts- things like that, then putting a turbo on your N/A is the way to go.

Sure- there are SC from T-birds out there, but like scathcart said- you need to make a manifold...

In any respect- turboing a car cannot be done cheaply if you want it to last for more than a few months- or perform effeciently.

Don't forget- the whole fuel system needs to be upgraded too- TII fuel pump, 550cc injectors, you need some sort or fuel managment (S-AFC, FMU, or Haltech)

Even if you can custom fab a lot of things- it'll nickel and dime you to death to do it right.
