So, do you think my engine is blown?
I'd say yes. I still haven't done a compression test, but when I pulled off the supercharger (that froze up on the freeway), I finally got an idea of what kind of damage was done. I found tons of little metal shavings in the lower intake manifold...lovely.

Camden quality at its finest? lol
Looks like the SC wasn't geting enough oil.. So yea you pretty much answered your own question by hinting a compression test. If I were you id be doing that asap. Does camden have a warranty? |
we found metal shavings similar to that when my boss spun a bearing on his ep car. if your lucky, you might just loose one rotor/housing...
open her up and check her out. hopefully she wont look like this... https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/s4-turboii-engine-stationary-gear-failer-lots-pics-437795/ |

What happened was recommended a 10-rib pulley kit to cure my belt-slip issues (apparently the 6-rib system is not good enough), and they ended up sending me a 2.8" supercharger pulley, which means 20-22psi...at least that's the highest reading I got. So after the supercharger DIED on the freeway (as in made a screaming noise and filled the cabin with smoke), I called Atkins and they told me, "well that's too much boost for the little 7-inch supercharger." So I discovered these metal shavings when I took off the supercharger kit to send it back to Atkins for a warranty claim. I dunno what I should ask them for when it comes to my engine, though... |
Well, that sucks. Do a compression test, and look through the exhaust ports to see if there is scoring. Aluminium is rather soft compared to the surfaces of the rotors, housings and plates, so you might be in good shape.
I guess the benefit of buying something like the Atkins kit is knowing that you will get support in a situation like this. |

if i were you i would get Dan on here, he should be defending himself because he is making himself look bad over this.
if this is the kind of business he deals out and doesn't offer anything but fault his customers for his own mistakes then it isn't the kind of business i want to deal with and i expect to be doing a lot of business soon. even being helpful and courteous won't bring back a $2000+ engine and whatever the supercharger cost plus the labor you spent installing, tuning and dicking with the thing. should i even ask how much money you have dumped into this project and only have a big chunk of frozen metal to show for it? |
Hmm... How did you react when you saw you were boosting 22psi?
ARE the Camden units supposed to run that much boost? |

I think I might have recieved a special supercharger that they forgot to properly clearance the rotors on, because I ordered an 8psi kit and it was more like 14psi (when the belt didn't slip). |
I did a compression test this morning and I can't believe the results. 115 on both rotor faces. I am absolutely amazed by the engine in my car. It has seen enough detonation to kill it ten times over. I mean, looking at the exhaust ports, they're COVERED in white powder. It just doesn't make sense how this engine is alive.

Did you get 3 even bounces of 115 on both front/rear rotors? If so, wow congrats on the good luck finally :)

Sounds like it :)
BTW, I know you're parting everything out, are you giving up on the rx7 or just going back to stock? Planning on selling that engine? |
is this on a turbo or n/a engine? either way, holing 22psi from a roots style blower and stayin in one piece is pretty amazing. were you running race gas?
