So Am I "S.O.L." or what!?? Help(!) with my tranny...

First a real big "Hey!!!" cause let me just say I'm SOOO glad this forum exists!

I drove my First Generation GSL-SE for five years ... loved it-then got a new dependable/whatever car and am glad to say I'm back in the rotary world...but this current car (2nd gen-87 Non turbo) was meant as an investment make a quick buck and buy a manual transmission Mint 1st or 3rd generation in the near future...

Anyway, back to the dilemma. The Automatic (hisssss yes I know) transmission is shot, or well, not completely it's revving up in 1st gear really high, and oh so slowly finding third instead of second. Then the higher gears seems to do ok, I read somewhere that trannys in some of the second generation(non turbos) were a weak point and many parts are hard to find to rebuild them. So what's the best road to take? Does anyone know of someone who rebuilds in the Los Angeles area? Or should I take the risk and go down to pick a parts and grab the one off of another 87 (with more miles than mine) and pay someone 150 bucks to put it in and hope it lasts? I just don't have a lot to spend on this...can anyone point me in the right direction here, or let me in on some possible pitfalls?

Thanks so much...

Miss Ashlie

you could probably find someone who did a manual tranny swap into their 7 and get one off them for relatively cheap on the parts for sale section. that's where i would start anyways. :)

Have you tried changing your oil and filter ? Find a place that can change all of your fluid some places can suck it out of the torque converter it might work for a while .

5-speed swap. You sound like a good person and good people don't drive automatic 7s. ;)
