smoke from center console.

WHenever i go to tahoe or reno , about 150miles in to the drive if its a hot day, smoke will start coming out of the center console and like behind the stereo. Somtimes the over heat needle gets up about 3/4 of the way if i'm doing like 100-120 up a hill. Or on a str8 away for a long while. But it ussually only goes up less than 1/3 of the way. Could it be my transmission or some wires under the center console melting? My dad says the the transmission will over heat if i go that fast. any ideas?

Heh... and you are still driving this car why? If you have overheated the engine and you are getting smoke as a result, there is a good chance your coolant seals are scrap. :(

You could be melting wires, but I do not think that is it especially if your temperature needle is going up. Manual transmissions do not overheat that much unless they are out of fluid. :p: Tooling along at a good clip in 5th gear the transmission is getting plenty of air cooling it down as well. Just my take on this...

could be your tranny, could be tranny fluid leaking out onto something, (auto or standard tranny?) could be your exhaust or something gettin onto your exhaust, you'll have to be more specific with what the smoking is

what kind of smell/look does the smoke have it could be so many things, but it wouldn't take much to determine whether or not its electrical or mechanical

I vote for clogged exhaust causing internal heat buildup that the radiator can't handle causing 200-215F degree engine temps.

Clogged exhaust = glowing exhaust = hot floor = plastic touching hot metal = smokin interior.

maybe he has an exhaust leak and the shifter rubber seal is all crappy......the "smoke" is kinda hard to diagnose without seeing it in person....my advise- SLOW the fuck down!!!!! Get a new catylitic converter and stop driving like an ass all the time....:)

From behind the radio?

The smell should tell.
Wire? Plastic? Oil? Coolant?

I like Vaughn's guess..

Although I have seen this symptom caused (on my car in fact) by a leaking tranny front seal...Does your clutch slip? Oil will spray onto the clutch disc, and ruin it quickly...
