Get a new Clutch.

You shouldn't be driving your car hard when it's still cold.

The rpm thing sounds like the 3800 rpm hesitation which is a common problem. Someone else should be able to elaborate on the problem and solutions.

Good luck and welcome to the forum! :D

YES...OH GOD YES. Someone who is having the same damn problem as my FC3S! I can't figure out what the hell is going on with the damn thing. My pressure sits at 20-30 at idle and 50 at go. I am completely fucking baffled at what this is, My damn compression is good so it isn't the stupid motor. I can drive it down the road from my house and the damn thing will smoke until I rush into 3rd gear. Afterwards, no smoke and I can pull over into a station and turn it off. Wait five minutes, get back in and go and there is no damn smoke. Mine is white however at idle it smells like gas but not heavy and along with that it is a blue color at idle. That might have something to do with it. Well if you fucking figure it out tell ME!!! Oh by the way mine is a 89 GTUs N/A

Hey, I've got the same symptoms. I smoke out when I crank it, and it takes forever for it to get warm. At idle, the oil pressure it's on the low end of the normal area, and when I'm going it's on the high end of the normal area. It's just something to get used to. They smoke when they're cold, so make sure you go out and start it up extra early. Anyway, I've had my RX7 for long enough to learn a thing or two about them.

Take heart, fellow FCers. Not all the 2nd gen's do that. Your problem is likely not compression, but the rotor oil seals. This isn't exactly great news, however, as replacement requires complete disassembly.

I had a 90 GXL that did that. It had great compression, but would smoke a lot at startup. Some days it would do it, others it did not. I can tell you that leaving it sit idle for a few days made it a lot worse. I think the temperature had an effect on it, too, as it seemed to get worse when it was cold outside.

That was the only one of my 8 FC's that had that problem. I never did fix it, and sold the engine as it was.

I've got same problem with the smoke - and getting slightly worse ..afterburn increasing, etc.

So we've narrowed it down to oil seals - tough repair job - we're looking at rebuild aren't we?
