Smoke!

My car seemed to flood for the first time today. I rememebr reading something bout the s5's having some kind of flood-preventionsort of thing in it... so when my car wasnt starting this afternoon i floored the car after trying to crank it up normal after a few times, and these real sexy clouds of smoke shot out the hood and exhuast, i assume this is normal?

cloead 11-02-03 09:09 PM

i dont think smoke coming out of the hood would be normal.. =/ i dunno though.

Erk 11-02-03 09:10 PM

I'm not sure if it came out of the hood or just the exhaust comming back under the car, i dont know. it was kinda cool though... haha

nlc1179 11-02-03 09:18 PM

hopefully its not a problem. if it is, you will probably find out in the near future....lol

Erk 11-02-03 09:20 PM

im not to worried about it, i just figured it was the gas burning out of the flooded engine, the smoek may have actually been a blue colour, im not entirly sure(it was dark out)

RotaryEvolution 11-02-03 09:39 PM

how far did you drive it after that?

i blew a water jacket seal today and had smoke for days, just hope you did just flood it.

Erk 11-02-03 09:41 PM

i drove it a few blocks to take my aunt somewhere and back, maybe 5 minutes? it wasnt smoking any after i just started it...

mightymouse0x 11-02-03 10:01 PM

how much work is invloved to replace a water jacket? and how much? i assume i blew one cause im burnin coolant pretty good.

RotaryEvolution 11-02-03 10:04 PM

depends on the condition of the motor.

my engine has 160k on it so i am going to do a full rebuild.

no point in doing a half ass job while the engine is out.

Erk 11-03-03 12:49 AM

well i take it the smoke isnt a problem...?

RotaryEvolution 11-03-03 01:05 AM

like people said, drive it and find out. :D

really, unburnt fuel or just oil entering the combustion chamber from cranking could have been the smoke you saw, or it could have been something completely different. if it was coolant then you will know very soon.

TakahshiRyosuke 11-03-03 01:07 AM

Basically umm dont do that..ever again. You burnt the oil that had flooded your spark plugs. Its bad. Very bad. Clutch starting the car is safer when it stalls and floods.

Erk 11-03-03 01:11 AM

lol... figured it wasnt anything good. What was harmed, if anything?

Erk 11-03-03 01:27 AM

I take it nothing...but it can somehow cause a problem if short of luck?

Erk 11-03-03 06:58 PM

Looks like it may have been something not to good. All day today my temp has been WAY high. Perhapes i blew something. I'm not sure--tomorrow im taking it in to have the electrical system checked. I'll have them look at the radiator as well...
