Smog Pump losses?

My FC still has the smog pump. This would seem to be kinda unnecessary, and I live in an area that doesn't require emissions testing.

What would it take to remove it? Other than reducing complexity (which is always good in my book :D ) what kind of gains in HP / TQ / MPG could I expect?

On the other hand, if there's a bunch of fiddly stuff that would get screwed up by removing it, I'd leave it under the heading of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." :nono:

its in the isn't broke don't fix it category.

gains in hp/tq is zero, and if anything mileage goes down

What year is the vehicle? The 89-91 cars rely on the air pump for aux port actuation.

Mine is a 1991 Convertible. Didn't know about the aux port actuation...and we kinda need that! Seems like a lot of hardware just to run one little actuator though...

It operates the 5th and 6th ports located in the side irons and it also supplies the air for the VDI intake system. There’s a write up somewhere where electronic actuators were used to operate used in conjunction with an rpm sensor? Interesting stuff.
