Smog Passing in CA...help!
Okay, here's the deal- Car has no cats- downpipe to midpipe to straight pipe exhaust....WILL NOT PASS SMOG (especially in CA).
Anyone know where I can get passed(guaranteed)? I live in the Bay Area, and know that this will probably cost me quite a bit more to get a certificate under the table, but i'm asking for your guys' help! So please email me or post your messages here! nikedope98@aol.com 87 Turbo II |
go ask any rotary performance shops around and also any other performance shops period.
for those shops, that CA smog is a everyday issue and they should know a way to deal with it. Jay Kim |
Hey anyone: can I pass smog streetported, but with the stock main cat?
|
thanks for the advice, i'll go to some rotary performance shops and see what they can do for me

smog
I too live near the bay area. Can you do me a favor and let me know what you find out about this? I will have problems smogging next year too. thx.

Did you pass smog before? or have you just recently added stuff. Question- how often do u need to get smogged, and I just bought the rex from a person in dallas, does the car need to have the smog certificate for me to get the car registered?- thats what my friend told me but wasn't really sure.

Passed before...no pass now?
Well...just got back from the sniffer...and I failed. Good thing I knew the mechanic relatively well or else I would've been tagged. The only difference between my last test (a dyno-type one) and this test (standstill sniffer) was the addition of a downpipe. The pre-cat doesn't convert THAT much, does it? Perhaps my main cat is due for replacement. Has anyone passed with similar mods as mine with a high-flow or stock cat? Obviously my situation may be a bit different as I'm a 3rd gen.

Still looking for a place to get my car smogged in bay area...30 day registration deadline is coming closer and closer...need some help!

I have passed a sniffer test w/ a hi-flow cat and dp last year.
Tips: 1. Before you test, run your car hard...say at 70 in third gear for about 10 minutes. This will blow some fo the carbon out. Then get your car tested asap. 2. Try some fuel additives that will reduce emission. Just go to NAPA or Pep Boys and search for them. I have a stock cat and stock dp (dp does not impact the test if your car is hot) that I will loan out if you need it. I live in Fremont but I work in San Jose/Milpitas (by the Great Mall). Just PM me. If anyone know of a "good" place to test, please let me know... Good luck, Jay |
i just had to dig this one up...
my t2 will need to be sniffed in about 2 months...so did anyone find a good place to get their 7 sniff certified or did the "work-around" posted by jay work? i've gotta know...soon... |
Here's my advice.

anyone wanna pm me with their "favorite" place to get smogged at in the bay area? i've gotta ported n/a that's about 600 on the hc emission at idle and runs a little too rich. i'm taking her into rick's rotary in pleasanton to check up on the emissions stuff to make sure everything's working properly.
thanks! |
get it passed at the shell on 16th and valencia
|
on the bottom of the smog check test it says that the state of CA is offering financial assistance to make emission-related repairs. And if you do not qualify for that you may qualify for a repair cost waiver, which allows your vehicle to be registered without passing Smog Check. has anybody tried that?
