Possibly leaking injectors. Do you experience any trouble with starting? Or flooding?

Eric'sNoPistons 11-22-04 06:22 PM

Only that when Im driving and Ilet go of the gas it bucks a lot

skatingsamurai 11-22-04 06:26 PM

FPD!!!!! FPD REPLACE IT NOW
or hold with you a fire extinguisher at all tiiiiiiimes -_-

fuel pulsation damper... its that or bad o-rings on injectors...but thoughs dont just GO bad....your going to to have to crackinto your uim and take a look.....

Eric'sNoPistons 11-22-04 06:32 PM

How do i know if there is anything wrong with the fpd?

hanman 11-22-04 06:34 PM

It is on the end of the fuel rail. It is a yellowish cap. If there is fuel leaking from it do not drive your car at all until you replace it.

But, what you posted was a fuel smell in you oil. Not a fuel smell from the engine when it was running.

Ummmmmmmmm, he never said he was leaking gas unless I missed something so I dunno where the hell this PD stuff is coming from. All he said was his oil smelled like gas which is probably caused by flooding.

The bucking could be the Throttle position sensor. Have you set it recently?

Im getting the tps adjusted tomorrow, but my concern is that my oil smells like gas. as soon as I bought the car I had changed the spark plugs, oil,oil filter and air filter. the oil that came out of it smelled like gas. When I started the car with the new plugs and stuff I checked the oil again and it smelled like gas too.

Well I'd say almost every rotary will have some oil in the gas--some more than others. It can be leaky fuel injectors, running too rich or less than perfect side sealing of the rotor.

Lots of turbo engines have this problem--many don't even know it. If your FI is working correctly, I'd say the biggest contributor to the problem is the rotor side sealing. This results in blowby of the fuel into the rotor oiling system--hence gas in the oil.

BTW I don't think it is caused by the FPD. Now if you smell gas on the engine near the UIM, then yea you'll want to check the FPD for leaking--but it could be other things also. And the injector o-rings will make your car act like it has a vacuum leak, not a gas leak.

The reason alot of people don't see this problem is cause the OMP is constantly injecting the fuel/oil mixture back into the combustion chambers, so there is some consumption of the crankcase engine oil/fuel. I'm boosting 8-12 psi and premix the gas since I don't have an OMP. My oil level increases at a regular rate and I get about 1000-1500 miles till I have to change the oil to keep it from getting too thin. I know many other people that have the same symptoms (turbo/premix). Even my old 12a had it but not near as bad as the turbo.

HTH,

Scott

p.s. It would help if you told us what type and year car you have, something like 88 turbo or 91 NA.

ist a 1988 N/A GXL

Eric'sNoPistons 11-22-04 07:10 PM

should I worry about this too much?

mcnannay 11-22-04 07:27 PM

high mileage engine?? definitly will happen with a high mileage car, you're just getting the blow by from side seals that are stuck from excessive carbon deposits or something. i probably wouldn't worry about it too much...but it wouldn't hurt to have your injectors cleaned if its flooding (and replace o rings) ...and maybe try the decarbonizing tricks...(mmo/aft/h2o)
