So my brother in law bought this 89 FC S5 together and slowly getting it goin. we bought it with an electrical problem. as soon as you turn the key the EGI fuse blows. it needs some minor body work and the rims needed to get powder coated.
Well we got the rims powder coated already and doin the major body work already. Me as a welder cut out the biggest rust spots already and welded new pieces in. we got some new fenders to.
its a work in progress. a very slow one, as my brother in law is rebuilding an FD and I just bought a house.
If anyone has any ideas what the electrical problem could be let me know.

Your EGI fuse powers two wires where one is White/Blue and the other is White/Red. Both of these wires run to the Main Relay which allows the voltage on these two wires to pass onto two other wires. So, unplug the 4 wire plug at the Main Relay and jumper voltage from the White/Blue wire to the Black/White wire and see if the fuse blows again. If it does not then the B/W powered circuits is not the cause. Then if this is not the problem then jumper voltage from the White/Red wire to the Black/Yellow wire and see if the fuse blows or not. Since the voltage on the W/R and W/L wires are constant then jumpering the voltage off of these wires to other wires transfers the voltage instantly thus the key to on is not required.

Awesome thanks man. I figured it out. Just a loose wire. Purrs like a kitten now. Whats normal oil pressure on a 13b na at idle?

satch 08-13-13 10:12 PM

Close to 30 psi. And what loose wire was the culprit?

toelessjoe 08-13-13 10:21 PM

Well we fidled around with all the plug ins so i actually dont know haha when we bought the car the guy said it was shorting somewhere. I threw a new egi fuse in, turned the key and fired right up. First time its run in close to a year. First time since wev owned it. Its got good oil pressure.

toelessjoe 08-17-13 08:08 PM

Well i tried startin it again and the egi fuse blew again.

So I received my BOP kit for the OMP the other day from Banzai Racing. I started taking the OMP off and had no idea it would be that hard to remove it. I was just wondering what type of silicone I should use to seal the OMP plate? I also have to send the ecu away to get an RTEK. BUT I have no idea where the ecu is? haha any help?

Try not to get too far ahead of yourself and start researching the Pro's and Cons of what you intend to do...also HOW to do it without getting into a situation where it could compromise your sanity or Heaven Forbid the Car's Integrity..lol.

I use "The RIGHT STUFF" as my gasket sealer of choice...It's Like Franks Red Hot Sauce..I put that S**T on everything!

Are you going to get the Oil injectors off the engine and seal the injector holes with the Block off Bolts?

toelessjoe 09-15-13 06:52 PM

Haha alright. Iv done alot of research. I own the car with my brother in law who also has an fd and my father in law has an RX3. And we came to the agreement to premix.
Yes i i will be taking the injectors out andd put the block off bolts in i got from Banzai.

toelessjoe 09-15-13 06:53 PM

Also where do you get "The Right Stuff"? I live in canada and iv never seen it?

fexterz11 09-17-13 12:53 PM

good luck with the build

toelessjoe 09-17-13 07:17 PM

Thanks. Just pulled the ecu. Gonna send that away to get an Rtek 2.1 installed within the next 2 week.

Started pullin the intake off to get to oil injecters so i can block those off

So i finally got some time to pull the omp off. (The proper way) i got the block off kit from banzai. Took me about 2 hours but its off.
Just need to get some vacuum line caps and i should be able to throw it all back to together.

For anyone doing this the first time (me) i suggest you label ALL the lines you take off.

Did a little more work on the fc lately. Got some wheel spacers. 1.5" for the back and 1" for the front. Did a little more engine work and ordered new gaskets.

I will also be building a custom stainless intake with a dual filter "Y" pipe design in the next few weeks.

I feel you should address the "fiddled wire" issue... it will come back to bite you

toelessjoe 01-13-14 08:22 PM

I will be finding the real problem and go more in depth of what it is. It comes and goes. Once i get the RTEK and can run it again ill post on it. As of now i really dont know what it is.

If you get that Rtek back and it blows the fuse again, you may be into getting another harness. If you do not feel like farting with wiring issues.
That to me would be the "faster way".

toelessjoe 02-15-14 07:19 PM

Yeah if i cant figure it out i might just have to go that rout
