Slapping on a TURBO! Where is the best place to tap in the oil lines??
I am in the process of putting a 90 TII turbo on my tweaked 1990 N/A engine.... any know where the best spot to tap into the engine for the turbo oil lines (intake, output) is? I don't really know....
Thanks a lot.... |
one way of doing it is,T-piecing the oil pressure switch for your in-oil and TAP/DRILL/WELD...a outlet on your sump, simple.
Just make sure the out on your sump is lower then the turbo so the oil can drain. |
I'm assuming the return oil line goes into a low pressure area like the oil pan right?

I think using the cooled oil returning to the engine from the oil cooler would be the best place. The turbo doesn't require that much oil for lubrication so check with a turbo manufacturer or rebuilder to find out if their is supposed to be an oil restricter in the line.

Just go get a TII front cover and change it, it already has the correct return line.
To feed the turbo if you dont want to drill and tap your engine. Than run an adapter (T) between the block/rear plate and the oil pressuer reg. Then get some ERL's/-AN fittings and steel braded line and run it to the oil inlet of the turbo. This is simple & cheap No drilling or taping this can be done with the motor in the car. Good luck, Chris... |
