size for rims

what is the best rim size for da 91 fc. many people told me to get 17" but i was thinking 16" would look best on a fc. What do u guys think?

JamesBong 08-18-05 05:50 PM

It all depends on the driving you want to do. I really like the look of 17's on the FC, but I drive some rough roads on a daily basis. I decided it's be better to go with 16's for the added protection of a taller sidewall. For more information than you can stand on the subject, check out this thread.

I went with 17" as well, along with alot of other people here i think they look the sexiest :D

I believe the 17's look better even though I still run 16's. I think the biggest complaint about any combination is that the wheel well is not filled out by the rim/tire. I was so annoyed by this, and didn't want to lower the car, I put 215-55 and 235-50 on the 16's. They are taller, but do fill out the "well". Need to try different combinations to get the diameter you want.

It's a waste of time asking us.
Only you can decide what looks good on your car.
It's like asking what's the best color...

go with 17's I have K=1's on my 91 and they look good. after I lower it 1" they will look better.

flubyux2 08-19-05 05:59 AM

what are you talking about ted? everyone here knows whats best and wahts not when it comes to someone ELSE's car and what they should do to it.

i personally have 17x9" SSR's on the rear of my car. theyve got 255/40's out there. in the front, ive got some 16x7" Enkei's with 205/40's. the only reason i dont have the matching SSR's on the front is because i cant fit the 17x8's with the 235/45 due to rubbing. the inner sidewall rubs on the lower spring perch. all it needs is a 5mm spacer on the front and it would fit perfect. the rears fit JUST right. with this offest and tire sizing, i have 3mm of clearance between the tire and the trailing arm, which is the tightest spot. the suspension and exhaust heat sheilding have about 10-12mm of clearance.

the rear wheel/tire combo looks massive, especially compared to the fronts. the side of the tire is FLUSH with the widest part of the fender arch and is plainly visible from the rear as it extends outward past the rear quarter panel. i could probably take a pic...

EDIT; here they are, taken w/ my phone. excuse the condition, its a work-in-progress; Save a GTUs!

woh, what's witht the huge gap flubyux2? Are you rally racing that thing?:stickpoke
Serously, those wheels look sweet, just lower your suspension a bit.

<-- that's my 16" wheels with 225/50's on em.

flubyux2 08-20-05 02:31 AM

wheel gap isnt cool, but bottoming out is WAY gayer. i like my stock suspension way better than anything that costs money. in all honestly, i LIKE my stock ride height and my stock spring rates and my stock strut valving. take a ride in a GTUs and youll understand. the nice thing is that i dont have to slow down to a crawl for speed bumps and driveways. the car doesnt tram-line going thru run-down intersections. it doesnt bottom out on large road undulations. trust me, cars that are slammed on their nuts gets old REAL quick.

i had a 91 AWD DSM back in the day, and it was on those same wheel/tire combo thats on the front of the GTUs now, and Intrax springs with kyb AGX. it bottomed out EVERYwhere, scraped on driveways all the time. going thru intersections that were run down, the downpipe would scrape without fail. backing out of subdivision homes that have the low curbs would land the exhaust in the street and the front tow hooks into the end of the driveway.

slammed cars are for the track and ricers, and i dont participate in either. even if i did lower my car, there would still be wheel gap in front and behind the wheels, so there is no way to get rid of the wheel gap properly unless i go with 19's. i dont care about this car enough to put 19's on it, but i do for my supra. for my OTHER car, these are the ONLY wheels i want to get. if you have the means, i highly recommend them. this is a pic of the CCW 505A's on my friends car. 19x11 up front and 19x13" in the rear. the car is "lowered" with eibach's, so its about 0.60" lower than stock.

get THOSE wheels if you think you can handle them ;) or you could leave them to the "real" cars ;) :stickpoke:

How much are you looking to spend for tires? :p:

I have 17s but tires can get expensive for them.

Tires for the 19's? they are 265/35 up front and 315/25 out back... they end up being about $2000 all said and done, for Continetal Contisport 2's... from Tire Rack. i personally would love to put the Michelin Pilot sports on there because they are sticky as all get-out... but they are pretty damn expensive, especially for the 335/25's that should be on the back of the Supra. i Want to buy that wheel/tire combo off my friend's car for mine... but, on the other hand, id much rather have 18's because of the tire prices... and i have yet to see a DR sold for 19's ;)
