88fcdriver 03-13-08 08:02 PM

i have 6 1/2 but i had to drill new holes on the metal part inside. so i suggest use 6.

SouthSideSlider 03-13-08 08:12 PM

rear i have a set of plates to make the 6/12 fit mine where like 8in stock

88fcdriver 03-13-08 08:25 PM

how did u fit ur 8in in there? did u take out the plate?

ATRON3000 03-13-08 08:30 PM

Am I the only one who put 8in mid-basses in the rear?

Where are these crossovers located? And does anyone have info on the factory amps that are supposedly in the car?

CarzArKoo1 03-13-08 08:36 PM

wow, interesting.

MDittz2ndGEN 03-13-08 10:25 PM

I have an 89 GTU, I would've loved to put 8" mid/bass in the rear but there was no way in hell that would've fit in mine. I bought 6.5" Alpines and THEY didn't fit. I had to custom fabricate a wooden mount for them.

^^^^^ Nicely done! You should do a write up on that.

88fcdriver 03-13-08 11:34 PM

AndrewAmazed 03-13-08 11:38 PM

woah thats a crazy mount hah
so does anyone kno the sizes that WILL fit?

Alex6969 03-14-08 12:07 AM

I believe the stock size is 6in. A buddy of mine took the plastic mount deal out and put 8's in there.

Crutchfield.com
Bestbuy.com
Circuitcity.com
All those places will tell you. Sometimes it helps to search the INTERNET too... Not just the site...

According to Crutchfield.com the only size that will fit in MY car, 1986 GXL, is a 4" speaker.

You COULD also always take out the old speaker and check the old fashioned way... With a ruler...

Chris Boots 03-14-08 01:21 AM

I have 8's in mine. Each speaker is a 125watt Kenwood three way. I believe you call it a mid bass, I'm not good with speaker terms. The guy said these rock and he proved it, I bought them. I don't have the stock speaker cover over them cause they won't fit. I had to amp them too. But ya, I believe its 5 1/4 in the front, either 5 1/4 or 6in in the doors and 6in in the rear and 2 500watt 12in subs in the rear... JK, thats not stock lol

CarzArKoo1 03-14-08 01:24 AM

nicely done MDittz2ndGEN, would you help me make two piece of those and did what you did for your car thanks. pay for your labor =)

MDittz2ndGEN 03-14-08 09:52 AM

Haha alright, I think I'll give credit where credit's due, I didn't realize the mount would be so popular.

My dad's a construction GOD, he's been doing it since he was 20. (he's 48 now.)
He did most of the fabrication on these, I just tinkered around, took measurements and came up with the concept. I guess I'll do a write-up on it, that much I can handle, but I'll have to ask him if he'd be willing to put together a couple more carzarkoo. I'll get back to you on it, I think he'd be willing to do it pretty cheaply if it doesn't interfere with some other job he has.

By the way, my dad's amazing with corian construction, contact me if you have a remodel you'd like to have done under the table ;]
(kitchen, bathroom, anywhere you have a counter!)

can u make me one too MDittz2ndGEN? let me know how much.

MmSadda 03-14-08 10:24 AM

My car is a s4 GXL, and it only had 4" speakers in the rear. I'd take your cover off and measure what exactly you have, because it seems that 4" and 6.5" were both offered stock.

SouthSideSlider 03-14-08 10:24 AM

wow im runing 6 1/2 all around clarions up front and pioners out back.

I don't get it... Why wouldn't have the 8in fit if you had to fabricate a wooden mount for the 6.5's?

The 8's in my rear shock towers fit great... I put in some rubber mounts to cut out the vibrations but they sound great. 6.5's in the front doors but I'm also trying to get some 4's in the dash(i just can't figure out the factory wiring)... I have 4 tweeters in the car too.

Can anyone point out to me how the wiring on the crossover/built in amps runs in these cars... I bought the ride second hand and it seems like all the audio wires have been cut & re-wired

When the exhaust is as loud as it is I need something to drown it out while running down 95 or stuck in traffic...

All that and I'm only running 1 amp... a 4 way that is really small cause its one of those new digital amps... the head unit is pretty strong so I have it running the 4's and the tweeters.

CAr would sound alot better if I could get out some of the rattles and squeks... but it is 20 years old.

Silly me I take everything off of the car(front and rear wipers, power antenna, seat belt motors) all to save weight and probly put it all back in with the stereo unit

SmokinRx-7 03-14-08 08:08 PM

i put 6 1/2 infinity speakers and did some custom work to the panels that came with the speakers.... ill show u pics and the stock speaker covers fit if u cut a whole in them for the tweeter...
