neone know of a company that makes these?

Why? I know that there was a single rotor motorcycle once, but I have never heard of one in a car!

i have a few friends up at PSU that r gonna try to build one. just trying to find a company that makes them so that i can get so specs for them.

Hmmm, I will try to find the company name, but there is a company in England that builds custom rotaries. Sound like a cool idea!

I think Hurly Engineering sells them, but they are $20K+.

I'm making one this summer out of half a 12A. Going to have a machine shop cut down the eccentric shaft.

Check out Hayes Engineering, or possibly Atkins Rotary. I am not sure which one is doing it, but one of them makes a single rotor engine. They also make marine engines, and are researching rotaries for military use.

I don'nt know if i'm suppose to say anything, but i do know that Pineapple is building a motor that suppose to put down some serious hp. I'm talking SERIOUS HP. Drop him an e-mail. CJ

How are you going to balance the engine? Trim half the weight off of the stock counter-weight? It would also have to be perfectly balanced as well.

What applications are you considering for the engine? Go-Kart? Riding Lawnmower?

The NSU Spider (world's first production rotary car) had one, as did the Suzuki RE5 motorbike, but I'm pretty sure that's it for production vehicles. Mazda actually supplied a few single rotor versions of their motors (called 6A and 7A) for NASA to use in target drones years ago. But the best one I've seen is the single rotor Curtiss-Wright developed in the 60's to power large pumps and generators. It had a capacity of 1920ci or 31.5L and made 782hp @ 1525rpm! :D

WOW! That things huge, I've never seen that before.

Here's a photo of the rotor out of that 1920ci engine. The other rotors are other developmental engines, one a bit bigger than a 13B, the other about half the size.

And here's a photo of the world's smallest rotary engine, made by O.S. Engines inJapn for model aircraft. It's just 5cc and makes an amazing 1.27hp @ 17,000rpm, that's 254hp/litre! It's 70mm in diameter and fits in you hand. I've seen a photo of one in a RC car, but apparently the power made it undriveable! :D

Did you typo and mean 12A, or did you mean the 2-rotor 21A that Mazda devloped but never produced? That's right, a 2-rotor that's bigger than a 20B. I had a pic, I'll look for it! :D

never produced, all made but pockets in the rotor sides. I have a picxture of it in my yamaguchi book.

Am i the only one who looked at the rotor housing of the model engine and wondered "those ports are so tiny, I don't have a Dremel bit small enough to port them"? :D

Racing Beat i think had a full size 150hp single rotor engine. if anyone still has a cataugle from them it was in the very front

I think it would be cool to make a single rotor say 13b size and then p port it and put it in a shifter super cart. you could make at least a 100 hp and it would be small and light weight and mabe a little bit fast too. hehaaea.

I've seen ultra lights with single rotor motors, but i don't know where they came from. this was before i had an interest. Funny sounding....like one hand drumming
