simple tps question

What are the most common or obvious signs that a tps is bad?? As in, how it might act, or how the car might act? When i adjust mine to 1kohm cold, warm or hot I need to screw the screw in all the way until all of the threads are showing out the bottom and the spring is fully commpressed...(Car idles horrible and runs with no power at all and I have checked everything else)Doesn't seem normal at all. Thanks for any future help.

not sure what the signs are but you could always test your TPS with an Digital Multi-Meter(DMM), or Ohm meter. youl want a clean sweep all the way through. no skips or dead spots. use GREEN and BLACK wire leads. you'll want to test this with the car shut off and the TPS unplugged.

hope that helps,
Ryosuke

A tps does not set the idle of the car. See the online FSM for setting the idle. Fuel section.

Do not ever use the tps screw to set a idle speed.

i know that it is not used to set the idle the brass screw and jumping the green plug does that but...does that make any sence that i have to screw that screw all the way in and the spring is squished just to get it close to 1kohm. That is where my trouble shooting took me when the car started running horribly and isn't even drivable. and yes i adjusted it when it hot

I realized there is something wrong with the butterfly? adjustment on either side of the throttle body..and i dont know how to fix it. it seemed to back away from where it usually sits therefore backing off the tps and leaving open the throttle plates the slightest bit. I sprayed it with tb cleaner to loosen it up, but i cant get it to settle back into place..I also got the haynes in front of me but not getting anywhere.
