Signs of motor giving up? Not that mine is...

Or maybe it is? Who knows. What are some common signs?

Rotory 06-07-03 08:21 AM

slow car

ViperKillerWannabe 06-07-03 09:34 AM

Loss of compression, smoke, loss of power... Many other things I can't list.

What motor? the power window? fuel pump? Seat belt?

OH! you mean the ENGINE. ENGINE ENGINE ENGINE.

yeah, slower car, bad gas mileage, etc..... but those could all be attributed to MANY MANY other things than a failing engine.

Do a COMPRESSION TEST to get the real status of your ENGINE. ;)

my compression is good.... but i have a slowcar... 87tii.
dunno whats wrong with it. other than crazy amount of exhaust leaks everywhere, maybe a clogged cat, bad bac, exposed wire commin of the 02, the L/R screw was turind all the way clockwise for some reason.

but it takes like 4 to 5 seconds to rev up to 6 grand in neutral. it boggs for a sec or so... then slowly gains rpms. yay!

I dont know what to do other than replace 02, fix exhaust and bac. then take it to a shop and say "fix it" then remove arm and leg for the bill.

smoke is bad - depends on what kind of smoke

from what i've read, guys who get "oil blowby" still get miles and miles and miles out of their engines before anything bad happens.. it just eats a bit more oil :p:

Motor = engine. :D That's why a car is called a motorvehicle. Anyways it's not meant as an attack on you dre, just wanna clear it up. :)

Any other signs other than smoke or "slow car"?

I always thought (and was taught) that motors are ELECTRICAL.

Whereas Engines are MECHANICAL.

i dunno, but mine was that it had in inconsistancy in power. sometimes it would pull really really hard, sometimes it would feel vastly slower. This is regaurdless of boost...and close periods (not weather related differences)

My NA had a loping idle that nothing seemed to cure before an apex seal broke and siezed the engine. Should have had compression tested when I bought it, but I didn't know that much then. :(

how about this: how can you tell if an engine has been overheated? My friend was thinking about buying an 88, but the guy opened the hood and there was coolant all over the engine, so I told my friend not to even risk it.
Actually, I'm pretty sure it did overheat, because I put my hand behind the fan and it was pushing about .5 CFM.

Motor, derived from latin definition "to move", and participle of "motion", meaning any contraption capable of converting one form of energy into mechanical energy.

Engine, from the latin ingenium, shares the identical definition. Any device capable of converting energy into mechnical energy.

The words are synonomous. What you may have been taught may also be incorrect, such as 'a lot' being the correct spelling to describe a vague amount.

One of my TIIs does the exact same thing, has anybody been able to shed some light on our plight? Thanks.

My engine is 90/90/90 and 90/90/90 as well, thankfully I've got a new rebuild sitting on my garage floor for the microtech swap.
