should my fogs be like this?
my foglights go on when my hand brake is down, my headlights are off and my car is on....But it i flip open the headlights, they go off, no matter if i have the switch on or off.
I could've sworn it's supposed to come on even with the headlights on, can anybody vouch for that? I wiggled the console before trying to remove it, maybe the switch got loose or somethin? |
In Canada you have Daylight running lights there, so yes they are operating correctly for Canada.

Here in oregon that will get you pulled over and ticketed...Bloody cops

You need to turn the lights on with the switch between the seats for them to work with the headlights on. At least that's how it works on my S5 TII.

yup, i did do that and it didn't work, but i got it to work together now....except, now, I can turn on the driving lights without having the e-brake off. What I was told before was that the e-brake has to be released and the car on for the driving lights to go on, but now they dont' seem to work like that. All i did was disconnect and reconnect the wires under the switch....wierd

ummm...could you by any chance have your highbeams turned on constantly? The fog lights don't work when the highbeams are on, at least not here in the states, although I'm not sure if that's the case there in Canada...as for the e-brake deal, my lights work whether my brake's on or not, althought the foglights won't work unless the headlights are on...maybe somebody already screwed with the wiring in your car?

Yep, the fogs should be on all the time when the ignition is on, except in the following conditions-
- If the hand brake is up - If the brights are on - If the headlightlights are on, and the foglight switch is OFF. That's it. If the headlights are on, you should be able to turn the foglights on and off with the foglight switch- unless the brights are on, then the foglights won't go on. Even if you flash the brights for a second (FTP) the fogs will go off. |
I'm pretty sure that if you have an FC it would have been manufactured before the DRL legislation came into effect, wouldn't it? The DRL thing hasn't been around all that long. But I could be out to lunch.

All Canadian S5 FC's had DRL's in place of foglights (same lights, different control I believe).

if your headlights are on. and the switch is on. they should be on. and will not turn off with the e-brake
if the headlights are off. they are controled by the e-brake. |
AH! that's the answer i was lookin for, thanx man
|
Why are they controlled by the handbrake? What's the reasoning behind it? Seems weird.
|
canada has manditory "daytime running lights" for all '90 and newer cars. some form of front light is aways on. the rx7 keeps the foglights on. I guess the thinking is whenever the car is moving (brake off) they are on. and whenever the car is not moving. they are off.
most other cars are the same way. (with the brake) |
Interesting. I knew about Canada's mandatory DRL's, but I can't see why they can't just be on whenever the engine's running. I use my handbrake often when driving (hillstarts, long waits at lights, U-turns...), so they'd be off and on all the time! :D
BTW, was I right about the actual lights being identical to the normal S5 foglights? |
ya I'm pretty sure they are the same lights.. just the wiring is different.. remember that canadian ecu ground post we had a while back? :D
