should I be worried?

hey, I was wondering, should i be worried? My Oil Pressure Gauge(OPG) reads about/above 60 during warmup, then at operiating temp, it reads alittle above 30... when i rev the car, it moves up (cant rember how far at what RPM range at the moment though)

I know that my OMP isnt working(dont worry, i premix) and im almost sure my OPG sender is leaking, and my Oil Filter Pedestal is leaking too... Im almost worried that the rest of the engine isnt getting proper Lubeing... however the oil is starting to darken alittle after about 600 or so and ive not needed to refill it ether(thus the OMP)

are there any signs that i should look for to see if the rest of my engine is/ is not receving proper oil???

btw, i have a bone stock 87 GXL with 174,000 on the clock

30 at idle and 60 on throttle is normal oil pressure

Whizbang 03-22-06 07:27 AM

OMG your car is running correctly.

CharlesGordon 03-22-06 09:13 AM

Yea, thats normal.

MrFC3S 03-22-06 10:19 AM

haha smartass... lol :p

well, the reason i asked is that someone said that my presure should be around 60, not 30... like if im running down the road at say 2800... it wouldnt be much above 30...

Thanks though, makes me feel better atleast...

Icemark 03-22-06 10:21 AM

sounds like the E-shaft thermopellet has failed.

is pressure down when idleing and warm as well???

Pressure when warm should be around 30 at idle and 60 at above 2000 RPM.

MrFC3S 03-22-06 02:47 PM

well, like if i rev and hold at 3grand in netural, it goes up to 60, but im pretty sure its at 30 while driving... would a leaky sender unit or leaky filter pedistole cause that as well?

Icemark 03-22-06 03:52 PM

any leaks can lower it.

Fix the leaks first

should I be worried?

I'm new to the forum, but have been driving RX's since 1992.
MrFC3S seems to be describing my problem on an 88 vert w/160K.
At start up the oil pressure shows about 45psi and goes to just above 0 at warm idle. The pressure goes up to about 45 psi under acceleration, but hovers at 30psi+ at cruise. Icemark suggests a worn out thermopellet and I am leaning to that as well. Atkins Rotary offers one for $10.50 as opposed to my local dealer at $55.00. Am I on the right track?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Isn't the Atkins one the modified type?

should I be worried

Yes. The Atkins pellet is solid. They sent me a diagram for easy removal of the old one and installation of theirs. I'm wondering if this will solve my low pressure problem. The car has been this way for about 4 years that I know of, and there are noe apparent problems caused by this. Oil consumption is approx 1 qt/1000mi
and there aren't any strange sounds or vibrations.

Icemark 03-28-06 07:41 PM

The Atkins or FC3S.org one or shimming would be the first mod I do to any 13B. It allows full flow to the rotors and bearings regardless of engine tempature.

+ I had a motor fail back in the 90's because I didn't know about it.

falcon63 03-28-06 09:02 PM

Thanks Icemark. I'll order the Atkins one and see if it solves the problem.
