should i leave the fan shroud on?

that is if i put on my electric fan. i see people with them on and off so im not sure the effects. what do you guys think?

Relisys190 05-30-03 06:20 PM

i've had an electrix fan for over 2 years.. without the shroud. and i've never had a problem

just make sure (not like your gunna remove it BUT) dont take off the plastic undercarrige piece. you NEED that on there.

ONce you have E-fan, no longer need shroud..

Actually, if you're like me, and run your car hard often... you would be better off with a shroud on there. Maybe it doesn't matter so much if you don't run your car as hard as me though?

If you don't need to replace the stock fan, leave it.
People, well most, replace them when thay have to. You won't find any eletric fan that can cool as the stock fan.
If there is nothing wrong with it, leave it alone. And yes, you need the shroud as well as all the plastics to direct air through the radiator.

I have a blackmagic fan. The fan sucked out to much of my cars power and made daily driving a bitch. The car would nearly stall from stoping hard, the revs would just drop below 500rpm. I also nearly overheated doing a hill climb wiht it on.
So tommorow I'm going back to stock fan and shroud.
In my opinion is to don't bother with an EC fan until you really need it. Its expensive for such little gains from a EC fan.

i just purchased an electric fan, but now i'm reconsidering installing it. It's the black magic m150.

does the stock fan really cool better than any electric fan out there?

Thanks

ive heard rumors of the changing to an electric fan is a noticeable gain because of the amount of drag the stock fan gives at high rpm is removed.... just rumors though anyone have feedback on this???

Relisys190 05-31-03 11:56 AM

WTF. guys, there's an 11 pound 'stock' fan.... vs an E-fan..

I've got a black magic fan also.. it pulls 2800 CFM's.. i live in Florida, and for the past 2 years i've NEVER had a problem with cooling

Wormiez : when you car was stalling with the E-fan it sounds to me like it was your BAC valve not controling the idle properly.. Like i said 2 years with no problems. And NO shroud.

Dont consider the E-fan. Just put it on. THat viscus fan can fail ANY time.. and than your screwed.

you dont need the shroud.

the purpose of the shroud is that the stock fan (as you can see from looking into the bay) is NOT close to the rad, and not angled at the rad either.

so the shroud is to direct the efforts of the differently angled and placed stock fan to pull the air through the rad.

when you mount the e-fan, it (or at least it SHOULD be) mounted AT the rad. the stock shroud is not required when switching to electric.

SEE!! ^^^^ I pretty much said the exact same thing..

thank you Black13B

:)

btw - fingers

read any topics lately on the stock fan vs e-fan? strap up a flame suit and hop in! ;) j/k..

differing opinions definately..

i switched to electric, and it has made a BIG difference. BUT (as ive said in previous threads) i dont think my clutch fan was 100%.

that's my situation. i also like how the electric fan clears up all the room in the engine bay. :) but anyways, i can't say for sure that the e-fan is better... because i shouldnt be compairing to a clutch fan that likely wasn't up to snuff..

Dvst8 05-31-03 12:14 PM

I dont think any e-fan could blow as much air than the fan and shroud. The only reason why i'd take it out is because either I need more room or my response is lacking big big big time..

pinkin 05-31-03 08:50 PM

woah...... these are some serious thoughts happening here. my fan has crapped out on me. it turns way to much by hand. hot or cold engine, it spins when you push it. thats bad right? so okay......... is there a way to fix this myself, you see i have to get the A/C retro fitted and the man says it wont work because my fan has to much play in it. have you guys ever heard that before?

ViperKillerWannabe 05-31-03 11:41 PM

What's a good way to tell if your stock fan is bad?

Psychoblue23 05-31-03 11:43 PM

this may be a stupid question but what are the benifits of having this type of fan vs. stock? Someone educate me please.
