Should I buy a Rx7

Hey everyone I Love RX-7s :spam:, but the thing i have been seeing all the time here is that there nottin but problems, and as a student i dotn have the greatest income, but i am not thinkin that taht spittin cash out for a car is bad thats what i work for... so i wanted to know if i sould get one, and if are they relyable enough so i dont need to put money in it every day kinda thing...i want a import b/c i think domestic cars suck ass... and the rx7 always has my liking... so if i could get some good remarks on this it would help. thx

any 15 year old car will have some issues no matter what, however compaired to many other cars built in the same time period, they are very reliable.

If you want a care free car you should be looking at a new Toyota, not a 12-17 year old car of any sort.

You need to find one in very good condition and well take car off. But on any car with more than 10 years old, things will break down, shock/struts will need to be replace, bushings will wear, most cars leak oil with age. But then again i just bought a 86 fc with 180k and it runs perfectly and pass smog easily.

Sports cars are expensive mistresses!
I own a 1990 convertible RX-7 with 92,000 miles and always find things needing to be replaced on the car.
I would not recommend an older sports car of any type to a person with limited income!

If you're on a tight budget, stay away from cars that are old. RX7s are not for people who can't take of them. I hate seeing FCs beaten up and just left to rust because the owner is a lazy ass . It will give you problems no matter what the condition of the car is. If you can afford the maintenance, it's a great car and turn heads everywhere you go. If you do insist on one, have someone knowledgeable check out the car first. There are a LOT of crooked people out there.
Preventive maintenance is the most important but even then you will have minor issue that needs to be taken care of. I get irritated when people gripe about things that break. The car is at least 17 years old !!! If you are not the type who doesn't like to get down and dirty, don't get an old car instead buy one that still has warranty.

I'm going to be brutally honest. No, these cars are not reliable, no real sports car is. But they can be as reliable as any normal car with the proper maintanence and care they deserve and require. And they require a lot. A constant check must always be made on your oil. Oil changes and spark plug changes are to be made often. You must always keep an eye on your temperature gauge when driving, one good over heat and its goodbye motor. An Rx7 is an enthusiasts car. You have to love getting dirty to own one. Cause if you dont it will cost you and be in the shop more than you care for. And quite frankly its not a car I recommend for someone whos on a budget.

Just buy one. If you like these cars then you can deal with the problems of fixing them. I definately don't regret buying mine and I'm in University as well. Ante up!!

which, in your opinions, requires more maintenance, in regards to the engine and drivetrain;an N/A or a Turbo?

fastrotaries 07-05-03 02:26 AM

i think every one needs a rotary at one time in their life.

I agree completely with this, but this may not be the best time in his life to have one.

i'd say a turbo requires more maintenence. Look for a RX7 that already has a rebuild engine in it with low miles.
