should i buy 2nd gen rx-7?

yeah.. well i currently own a 91 eclipse and i was thinking of selling it for a 1986 Rx-7 GXL 2+2. it had a new engine put into it recently with about 20,000 miles on it. but the car itself has like 120,000 miles on it. the guy is selling it for $1600. if anyone has any knowlege about the dependability of a car like that i would really appreciate it if you could give me some tips or throw in your 2 cents.

See what you can do about getting a compression test done. If it was treated correctly, you shouldn't have to worry much about that with 20k on the engine. Make sure all the switches, lights, and electrical work. Check for leaks, fuild levels, and over heating. And make sure the exterior and interior are to your liking. I just bought my '86 GXL a month ago and it's been great. :D

ok, cool. yeah the exterior and interior are alright. the only think im worried about are mechanical problems and stuff.. i really dont want to spend too much money on this thing, well on repairs that is. it had a burst water tube thing or something like that but they fixed it. but everything else seems to be ok. the previous owner took the cats out so it doesnt pass emission(failed miserably) so they are working on putting them back in to try to get it to pass. but right now thats the only thing wrong with it.

That engine will last you a long time if you drive it well. Just pay some guy off at a dealership to pass your state inspection. I love working at a dealership .... ;)
