Should I buy this 2nd Gen 7?

It's sitting less than 2 miles from my house and they're asking $750 for it. Sadly he sad it needed "serious engine work", so I'm assuming it's in need of a full rebuild. It's a silver 86 5-speed w/ 193k on the odometer, so it's in need of a rebuild anyway. The body and interior seem fine. I think I can talk him down to between $600-$650. What I need to know is: 1. Is it even worth it? 2. Roughly how much would a complete rebuild be?

Also, a friend suggested that I buy the motor mounts from hinsonsupercars.com and put an LS1 motor in, but since I don't have the cash for a LS1 I was wondering what other engines would fit without major work. He told me that if I got the LS1 mounts I should be able to fit a regular 350 in it easily, is this true? Would it work and if so how much trouble would it be?

Without knowing anything else about the car, it's hard to say. If the body is rust free, paint in good condition and the interior in good shape then $650 is probably a good deal.

A rebuild will run you an average of $1300.

What would I need for the swap and would it be a total pain to do?

you would want to post alternative engines (engines other than the 2 rotor, rotary engine) in the "other engines" section of the board. Engines swaps with engines other than the 2 rotor, rotary engine are not covered within this, the 2nd gen RX-7 technical section.

as far as for a swap with a turbo motor, you would want to read the FAQ for FC sticky thread found at the top of this, the 2nd gen RX-7 technical section. It covers many of he commonly asked questions, such as what is needed for Turbo engine swaps and the like.
