I just changed mine to a different knob, made the throws shorter and was no hassle at all.

Black13B 11-02-03 07:16 PM

hIGGI's short throw kit. :)

nosd13b 11-30-03 08:26 PM

how much does higgi sell his for? i dont wanna pay for a mazdatrix one cuz it comes with the bushings and i all ready replaced all of those.

I plan on going with the Mazdaspeed unit within the next couple weeks.

hybridracer 11-30-03 08:45 PM

You can call mazdatrix or e-mail them and tell you you dont want the bushings and they will sell you just the shifter. Thats how I did it with them. Came out to 150 something i believe.
P.s
I had the mazdatrix one and loved it, higgis looked real nice too.

DelSlow 11-30-03 09:03 PM

this one looks badass

IMHO you'll be happy with just about any you put on there. I'm not even sure what brand mine is, since I got it used from someone selling parts from Japan, but it made a huge improvement over stock. I ended up getting a shorter shift knob as well and cutting off another 1/2" from the top of the shaft. It's now starting to feel alot more like my buddy's miata shifter. :bigthumb:

I voted for the Mazdaspeed on becasue the unit is solid quality...But I personaly have a Mazdatrix one. Its very good, and the throw is awsome.

BTW - B&M does not make one for the FC, only for the FD.

sub9lulu 11-30-03 10:22 PM

when i had my turbo
i had the mazdatrix shorty in it
i like the STOCK better than the shorty

Higgis shifter is really nice, Ive had mine for allmost a year and loving it.
All it takes it for you to flick your wrist and a new gear is fed to the monster:D

I vote for Mazdatrix b/c I recently installed it on my car. Throw became really great but I now start thinking stock one is not so bad if it has good bushings etc....

Bukwild 12-01-03 07:24 AM

yeah I had the mazda trix one on for about 2 hours then I changed back to stock. If you want a shorter shifter just cut half your threads off the stocker and get a different knob.

My Junx 12-01-03 03:13 PM

Mazdatrix on mine, it was tight as hell and really slowed me down for the first week or two but after that it just rocks. Very smooth short throws and very positive feel.

They are all good. They all work.

I just shortened the threads and clearance drilled a ball to sit down low on the stick.
That gives about the same leverage & distance as raising the pivot socket.

Good bushings are the biggest help.
