shop vac power = hp

I have a good idea I have a shop vac that is strong and it does blow in reverse all I need is a power converter and I have a big turbo for 50.00 what do you guys think?

banzaitoyota 06-16-02 08:22 PM

I think you should sell your RX7 and go join CLUBSI

telus.net 06-16-02 08:23 PM

You have no idea how much an engine sucks. It sucks more air than any powerful shopvac can blow.

RexRyder 06-16-02 08:27 PM

someone did this before and that had amazing power!!!
1/4 mile times were down by 3 whole seconds, of course, it was a real supercharger tho

Scott 89t2 06-16-02 08:27 PM

it is possible to make a blower strong enough to add power. but it'll draw way more current then the alternator can put out. and your battery and car will die after 20 mins of driving...

RETed 06-16-02 08:34 PM

How about I just hook up a hose and just blow into the engine for more power?

well you could always run that tube to an intercooler and then to the engine...

Along those lines...I was thinking, I could stick a tube up my ass and the methane produced from me would be like NAAAAAAWWWWSSSS y0!

You are in the same crew as the other dude who wanted to make his stock airpump into a turbo:ret:

Pinfield357 06-16-02 10:32 PM

how do people come up with these ideas?

Bambam7 06-16-02 10:38 PM

Cheap, fast, reliable.
Pick 2.

Ok, I'm sure you're a nice guy, but seriously. I can't even beleive I'm responidng to this.
I think we all had ideas like this when we didn't really know too much.
When I was 18 I was going to simply bolt on a ford supercharger onto the engine.
I thought it was really simple, and was just going to put an 8 lb radiator cap on the pipe to vent off excess pressure.
Geez.

Why don't you put it on your exhaust instead so it sucks more air out of the engine??

TurboHead 06-16-02 11:40 PM

Not to be mean, but I think that idea REALLY SUCKS! :)

ajsuper7 06-17-02 12:03 AM

hahaha, thats really a bad idea, but i give you credit, its orignal. but seriously we should ask the experts in the civic forum, im sure they have done the sears wet/dry shop vac mod to a 97 civic ex and it totally whooped up on a camaro ss. keep shiftin mad quick yo

Liquid Anarchy 06-17-02 12:23 AM

DUDE! DON'T LISTEN THE THESE GUYS! THAT'S A GREAT IDEA!

All you gotta do now, is fit the shop-vac under your hood, and you're GOLDEN!!!

That should take him a while to figure out...

Next post will be "does anyone make a carbon fiber hood with a REALLY big scoop? I need more room for my aftermarket shop vac!" :p:

Seriously though, I think HKS sells a shopvac/mini fridge turbo/intercooler kit for FCs. Go check it out!

Steve :D

SonicRaT 06-17-02 12:43 AM

run piping to the interior of the car, have a fridge in back with an intercooler, have the shop vac blow into the intercooler, and have the pipe connect to the AFM, and while you're at it, throw some beer in there, because you're going to want to be drunk off your ass if you think this is going to work :)

Icemark 06-17-02 12:50 AM

Ahh I thought this was another one of the joke threads like "my timing belt needs replacing"

But it appears he was serious.

How sad, they don't teach anything in physics, math, or shop classes anymore do they???

DC350 06-17-02 02:10 AM

You guys are assholes. Obviously he was just trying to come up with an idea that people would benefit from, and you shut him down. How would you feel if your not that educated about cars and they shut you down by mocking him and calling him a dumbass and his ideas are dumb. Christ

MtnRacer 06-17-02 02:22 AM

Ok, now now... There's a big difference between totally ripping someone apart and a little juvenile kidding around. You've gotta admit, it is a little humorus. At any rate, Chris, we're just kidding around. Don't take it personally, this is a pretty cool forum and it's fairly safe to assume that people aren't trying to be asses, so if it sounds that way, don't assume the worst at first. ;)
