Shooting Flames!!!

Ok i heard from a friend there is somthing in the exhaust on rx7's that you can take out and it will shoot flames at like 5k. is this true or not.. if it is what is it and where is it. thanks guys

ROTARYROCKET7 04-03-07 09:47 AM

if you take out the catalytic converter its possible you could shoot flames, if the mixutre is rich (Which the rotary usually are).

Whey do you want to shoot flames? Are you hanging out with hondaz?

rx7 FC TII 04-03-07 09:48 AM

catalatic converters..all cars have them and check to make sure that you dont have emissons testing in your area...if you do then dont remove them...or you could just buy an aftermarket exhaust like corksport or racing beat..

CyberPitz 04-03-07 09:50 AM

Shooting flames is fun to scare the poor ricers.

WNT2CREALPAIN 04-03-07 09:57 AM

N/A or Turbo Rotaries can both shoot flames but I think turbo's do more often.

Make a custom exhaust or have a shop make one up for you as straight as possible without a cat is your best bet. My TII shot huge flames all the time I had a 3" turboback exhaust with no cat just a straight pipe. Or if your cars modded enough you could have your AUX Rev limiter setup on the Haltech to cut ignition at 3k rpm with the flip of a switch just like RXSTASY's fc3s does.

> A straight pipe setup usually does the trick. Especially on TII's...

> But why do it? Aside from scaring the crap out of tailgaters, it just attracts cops to you faster than anything, expecially at night.

> The last TII I had had an RB Turbo-Back setup, and boy did it shoot flames all the time. At first it was cool, but after the 1000th time, it got annoying. Not becuase of the flames, but because of all the slack-jawed gawkers around me.

What can the cops get you on? You can't burn someone, because they shouldn't be that close to you anyway. the only thing they can do is pull you over and check your tags/etc.....so no harm *unless you have a lead foot...*

I hate people who ride your ass, hence why I like blowing flames at them. That's the most subtle way I can say, "SHOVE OFF!" without actually flipping them off :p

ROTARYROCKET7 04-03-07 10:34 AM

^^ yeah we got mad tailgators here in the city. I normally do most of it when im in my girls truck, but dont liek it when its done to me when im in the lil 7.

> True, I've never had a cop really ticket me for it. I usually use the awesome "its a rotary motor." excuse. Since most people don't know how these bad boys work, cops are no exception, they usually buy whatrever bullcrap I tell them.

> But, yeah shooting flames = good "fuck you tailgater" signal device.

I dont know about Missourri but here in Texas and I am sure in Oklahoma and California as well, get very dry at certain times of the year and Here in Texas we have whats called a "Burn Ban"...
That means we cant cook on the grill or even thump cigarette butts... This is because the vegetation gets so dry that the sun concentrated on a beer bottle for a couple of hours could result in a fire that would be 8 o'clock news worthy since it will probably burn half of the state...
Again... I dont know if MO would have something like this or not... I personally would like to fire flames at retards too but I dont want the ticket...

red_s5_fc3s 04-03-07 12:43 PM

Yes, I loved shooting flames from my NA FC. Got rid of the tailgaters and ricers. The only problem is that cops can pull you over. My cousin recently got pulled over because his exhaust popped and shot out a residual flame. The cop didn't see the flame, but he did hear the pop. It turned out to be a fix it ticket and a referee inspection.

So yes, cops can pull you over for the exhaust shooting flames. It pretty much tells them that you don't have any cats.

jonesfromindia 04-03-07 12:49 PM

some of you guys must not have to worry about emissions.....

sure ya blow flames attract a cop, he cant do anything........BUT WRITE YOU A TICKET!!!

you can get a like $1,200 ticket out here for not having cats.

honestly, if you are going to get rid of your cats, do it for "performance" wise. not to think you are badazz and shoot flames out.

i dont have cats, but i dont go getting peoples attention with it. sure its a fun trick to show your drunk friends and when they think they can put their hand in it and the HUGE fireball comes out and scares them, they know.

CyberPitz 04-03-07 01:00 PM

We don't have emissions, and we don't have a "burn ban". So, the only thing they can ticket you on is a fix it ticket that will mean you just need to go to the inspection place and get it reinspected *I'm assuming* and take it to the cop. Works best if you're not in an emissions state, or if you know a guy that will just write you off one. So far every time I've gotten pulled over for my other FC blowing flames *it was fun before I got the new exhaust on...* they would just ask me about it, I'd tell him this rotary engine spits now and then....nothing harmful..and they will just say, "Be careful from now on" or something else that sounds threatening, because here they can't do jack about it.

racing beat header to RB presilencer to 2.5 POS APC fart can. There was 2 fart cans welded to the stock ypipe sounded like major ass. I added a 2.5 single off the presilencer and kept 1 POS apc for the mean time.

blackhb 04-03-07 02:25 PM

no cats is a federal offence with up to $10,000 fine but does that stop me no atleast that what the guy at the exhasut shop told me when he saw that my crx had all 3" pipe from the downpipe back with no cats god i miss forced induction but if you take off all your cats all your cats your aux ports wont open you have to have backpressure from the main cat

rotorcop 04-03-07 04:38 PM

I dont know about other states but in Texas not havings cats falls under the statute Muffler Required, which covers the exhaust side of emissions and the muffler. As far as the max fine for a ticket for that it is $500max on the state level and I have never heard of a city or state police officer officer issuing a federal EPA fine for an emmissions violation (Iknow I am far too lazy to go through that much trouble to write a ticket).

in CA they can impound your car for anything they like now-a-days (im being somewhat sarcastic) fucken hate CA cops...

dreadseb 04-03-07 06:08 PM

what have you done to your car that it pops flames at idle, or is it just set really rich at idle or whats goin on there???

NCross 04-03-07 07:26 PM

federal offense? thats fancy talk. if your county has no emissions then whats the big deal? besides, around here (emissions) there are millions of highschoolers with big lifted straight piped trucks everywhere so it cant be that bad.

Sideways7 04-03-07 08:03 PM

Technically, tampering with the emissions system is a federal offense, regardless of emissions laws. As stated, most cops will generally just write a fix-it ticket if anything. Around here they generally don't care. I drove right past a cop when I had an open header and he didn't even turn around.
As for blowing flames, no cat and a straight pipe of any sort will do it. Stock, rotaries run very rich and will pop flames very easily.

Funny story - I was at a car show last weekend and had some fun with the mustang guys (which is mostly who were there.) I mentioned that my car shot huge flames and he said "oh yeah, just change the fuel mixture and put a spark plug in the exhaust." To which I replied "no, it does that normally. I didn't need to do anything" One of them also though I was an idiot because I told him my car didn't have heads. I tried to explain, but he was pretty thick headed. He assured me that my car had heads. If my damn car was there I would have made him go find them. Oh well.

arghx 04-03-07 08:17 PM

I got a fix it ticket in my T2 because black smoke came out when I was under boost (running really rich). I took it to court without a lawyer and the judge threw it out--I just told him I have a valid inspection sticker (which I do--I have a sketchy gas station give me my $9 safety/tampering check, we have no sniff tests anymore). They don't give a shit around here.

jonesfromindia 04-03-07 09:15 PM

god all this talk about money and tickets for not having cats is scary.

my car puffs black smoke under boost. but i dont boost infront of cops. i just keep my clutch in and roll down my windows. my exhaust isnt loud but i dont want to grab their attention.

LittleCon 04-03-07 09:35 PM

yeah im running no cats in my NA, and im getting pretty worried. Im hoping a dual cat system and a new o2 sensor will keep the poping down
